let's see, buy a 2006 Cayman S now and pay a premium of $3070 for metallic paint or order a 2007 Cayman and only pay an $825 premium for metallic paint
conversely, buy a Lapis Blue off the dealer lot or order an 07 model and pay the extra premium
pity those dealers with 2006 Cobalt Blue models sitting on the lot
All depends on what you like.......if Cobalt is your favorite, wait for '07. If you can be totally happy with Lapis......then get it. One thing else to consider.....you can probably get a decent deal on the Lapis right now, but might not be able to get squat on a '07 order at this point.
I would ask for a discount to cover the cost of the color dropping in price about $2100... or tell them you'll wait and order an 07 model with the exact same specs and it will be cheaper. (although that doesn't factor in any increase in the base price of the 07)
I love the CB but I would not spend all that money for it!
If I had an 06 on order and I was paying the premium for the CB I would ask my dealer for some type of price concession, if not, I would cancel my order and just get an 07.
When I ordered my Cayman in October '05, I decided to get EXACTLY what I wanted, no matter the cost. Then, for 4.5 months, I felt like a chump spending $3k for paint. Then, 3/17/06 I met my beauty and was THRILLED. It was worth the bucks. Complete strangers approach me at the hospital to rave about how beautiful this car is. The color is spectacular, I couldn't have waited for the '07, and didn't buy this car because it was a bargain. I bought it because it was my dream car! Greg
Cobalt Blue is a phenominal color, always a favorite. It is great that it is a regular metallic color for '07.
My wife would never have allowed me to spend $3k for paint. If I did have an '06 on order, I would have it changed to an '07. In addition to the reduced paint price, it is a year newer relative to depreciation.
I doubt it, but does Porsche have a program to compensate its dealers with cars adversely affected by the color change? If not, I doubt they could make up th difference.
love CB...had a boxster S in CB for 5 years and paid extra, but got BB for my cayman....one thing to consider though is that the exclusivity which will be lost come '07...perhaps one of the reasons it was so appealing in the first place!?! i would hate to see it become too common a color.
Where I drive, absolutely nothing about any Cayman will ever be called "too common." In the general auto population, these are rare animals. The total world population of Caymans wouldn't fill Section A of our local sports arena parking lot. For that matter, on an average day I see only one, maybe two, Boxsters.
