Hi Everybody. Just returned from tracking my CS this past weekend. As we know, the car was phenomenal. Having said that, I had some issues oil consumption and smoke. I was running the s*** out of the car. After one of my sessions, I parked the car. Upon start up so much oil smoke exited the exhaust that from the rear view mirror, it looked like the car was on fire.I drove the car around the paddock and everything seemed to be O.K. I returned to the track. The car was running perfect. I went around a hair pin corner only to be black flagged, because the car put out a huge puff of smoke. I decided to shut it down for the day. I let the car cool for at least 1 hour, added some oil, and started it again. Same thing. Long story short, I drove it home nice and easy, and now everything seems to be O.K. I talked to a mechanic at the track who told me sometimes Porsches are known for that. Does anybody have any input? Thanks, Brian
I would discuss this issue with your service manager. It doesn't sound right to me. Possible problems include, too much oil in the engine and or an oil pump that isn't doing it's job a 100%.
Ask Ernie at Mantis Sport about oil getting into the intake runners during hard cornering and what they do to prevent it. That 'could' be your problem.
What was your oil level? Overfilling the earlier cars would cause the problem that you speak of. With an integrated dry sump, I would imagine it could happen also. The cure in the older cars was to always run 1 quart low.

Cayman S - a portable amusement park
I know exactly what you're talking about, I was refused a run because my car was still smoking a minute or so after starting. My car does the exact same thing consistantly after sitting for an hour between runs with two bars of oil on hard track days and never shows up again.
Had mine outon track Monday. It was like 90 degrees. Saw no smoke. But felt like car was riding on flames though!
How low can you run the oil? Mine has dropped to just the very bottom bar since the last track day and I was wondering if that's safe to run at high rpms for that length of time?
brian - You should probably top it off to either the top bar or the next to the top bar, imo. The owner's manual has a good bit on how much volume each bar represents.
