Who is going to PCA Porsche Parade? Need co-driver
I am trying to finalize my plans for Porsche Parade and whether I fly or drive (would prefer to drive) likely will hinge on my ability to get a co-driver to go out to Portland and back.
Is anyone here going to parade and if so is anyone here interested in being a co-driver? Should be a great trip across the midwest and through the winding roads of the Rockies! I plan to take pics along the way and document the journey on this site!
If not because of the family vacation, I would jump on it in a heartbeat. May be I can ride with you from Portland to Kansas. By then I will either have a Nikon D200 or Canon 30D with a wide angle lens.
BTW, I did a quick Mapquest from KC to Portland and it came back with 1,805 miles, and here is a view of the route it suggests. I note that this would take me right past Woodhouse Porsche in Omaha... probably a few other dealerships along the way as well.
I'll be there, but driving my own car from LV up Sacramento - then I'm caravaning with a bunch of PCA Zone 7 folks (probably 9 or 10) in a 1-day banzai run from Sacramento to Portland on Saturday Aug 5th. Which hotel are you staying at?

I haven't picked out a hotel yet as I may stay downtown at one of my regular Portland stops as opposed to the official parade hotels. I need to talk to parade officials and get a few things sorted out first and then I'll have my details together shortly thereafter. At least one user has PM'd me that they'd be interested in being a co-driver for this trip. I figure it is probably 3 days there and 3 days back, averaging about 600 miles a day. Doing that would be KC to Cheyenne on Day 1, Cheyenne to Boise on day 2, then Boise to Portland on Day 3. Some of my local PCA folks are thinking about doing this as well, plus I have to believe that PCA groups east of KC will be passing by north of here on I-80 and I could meet them in Omaha, etc. In fact Woodhouse ought to have a Parade Pit-Stop for folks!

I mapped my suggestion and it really adds significantly to the time--maybe 4 hours. That may certainly put the kibosh on that, but I-80 is what gives WY such a bad rap, kind of like the Jersey turnpike. It's a real trucker's route that disallows any view of the beauty of the terrain. I-70 would be much more scenic and less straight.
I-70 is a wonderful drive through the Rockies - we (4 of us) caravaned to Hereshey last year, and I also took it back to Calif. You would take I-70 to I-15 - I-15 to SLC than pick up I-80... You want a great drive - Take I-70 to I-15... Take I-15 for a bit, and then get on US-50 across Northern Nev. Then hit 395 North into Eastern Oregon and then work your way over to Portland.
I'm pretty sure we're just going to blast up I-5, but I'm going to find a nice way back to LV, via Seattle after Parade.
In Portland, we should try to get a Cayman gathering together with attendees from the CC.
