My 100th post (plus one) bad news

After a seven year relationship, it's over. My beloved Boxster is no more. All of the twisting turns, days at the track, just getting in it and driving to work. Ah, what a pleasure! I was saving my 100th post for a special day but in the days leading up to handing over the keys to the new owner, I goofed. And made a post, my 100th. So, this is the post that was meant to be. I hated to see that car go. After all, the Boxster is the foundation for the Cayman. I waited 6 months to get the car in the 3rd model year, 1999. So, with quite some amusement I've been reading about, and listening to the gnashing of teeth between Caymanites, current and future, over what they are doing, or intend to do with the Boxster. Who cares? Truth is I probably only drove it to 70% to 80% of its capabilities. Had to save 5-10% for mom and the kids and it WAS my daily driver. So, I had no intention of running into a guard rail, brick wall, etc. For all of those who are concerned with horsepower, OK, but odds are that 80% of the people on this board are not driving their car to its maximum potential (the good ole 80/20 rule). I'm perplexed by Porsche's marketing strategy like many of you. Just like I hated to see my Boxster go, it was time to move on. So, I have but unfortunately the marketing gurus at Porsche took my name away from me. I've been seeing red for the past 5 months, Carmon Red to be exact. Now, that the marketing whiz kids have moved the color to the premium category, I've had to adjust. Seems odd to me how they decide one paint costs $3k one year and $800 the next, or vice versa. But I won't let that stop me. I just can't be Carmon Red any more because I refuse to pay $3k for a paint job that's not any difference from one day to the next, except for the price. So, I've changed colors and this will be my last post as Carmon Red. Asking K-Man S to change my name to Papa in Austin. Sorry for the rant! Wish I could join all of you Carmon Caymans but it won't happen with this one. I'm taking mm2556's advice 'quit worrying about Porsche's marketing strategy and enjoy the Cayman'

Always hard to break the attachment with a beloved, reliable car - I feel your pain. But the big question, what color will it be now?

Real bummer about the paint cost change for you. I curious what color are you going to choose now?

I guess the silver lining is that you'll get a '07 instead of a '06 - although you could get the lower price on someone's in-stock '06.

Not to spend your money for you but if you keep your Cayman as long as the Boxster then the paint you want is a lot cheaper than a Starbucks a day. Make your own coffee and buy the color you like strategy? None of us like Porsches premium paint scheme but life is too short to settle for yellow (just kidding MP).

Hey papa just saw your new thread on pulling the trigger. Fantastic.
Hate to hight-jack this thread, but does anyone know why porsche has fazed out seal grey. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger with an on lot car, but the only color available with the suitable config for me is seal grey. Not my first choice (silver is), but then I heard that seaal grey will not be available as a color. Is that suppose to be plus or a negative. Is this due to supply demand...over satuation??? Anyone...

Your point concerning paying for certain colors is a valid one.

I have NEVER paid for premium colors. I have ordered 'premium' colors on my vehicles in the past, but they have always been covered by the dealership. I will certainly not pay for different paint - unless they can guarantee me that it does not scratch, fade, or chip.

Papa in Austin----Speed Yellow/Cocoa! Obviously a man of impeccable discernment. We liked it when we ordered it,loved it when we saw it, andwill still love it if it ever gets to our dealer. And actually Carmon was in the running for me if there had not been a standard color I liked as well. In 1200 miles of use my leather has needed no special care. ha-ha. At the factory, for my euro delivery, the head of the Exclusive Dept (he happened to do my delivery orientation) said that Porsche use a 'special' (no details) leather on dashboards to resist the effects of the sun. Even so he said clean it and treat it along with the rest of the leather and minimize sun exposure.
