I really have my heart set on a Cayman, but I am hesitant to order one, and am considering something more common, basic, less expensive, and just overall easier to live with; such as a Tahoe or Denali, for fear that my Cayman could be vandalized. I know this is an everyday possibilty with any vehicle, but even moreso with a p-car, and considering I am a younger driver (22).
I just want to get a feel for how many people daily drive their Caymans, leave them unattended (at work, school, lunch, dinner, movies, bar scene, etc), or if everyone simply uses them as a weekend pleasure thrill that will always be garaged and never out of sight while out in public.
If i do order a cayman, it will be my daily driver, and will be unattended often (at work multiple times a week, school twice a week, and the gym 3-5 times a week, not to mention any spur of the moment activities such as dinner, movies, etc).
Its pretty sad that we live in a world where posts like this are even necessary.
The joy of driving the Cayman everyday is worth it but if the risk of damage troubles you more so than others then maybe a Cayman or Porsche for that matter may not be for you.

'now if only i can change the Bose surround system into something more listenable.
'
Couldn't agree with you more mt647. The car I test drove two weeks ago had the Bose system and that was the only BAD thing about the car.
Such a civilised car should have a civilsed audio system, something like 'Linn' for instance. Bose is nothing but a 'Boast'. Any audiophile will testify.
I think this depends in large part on an assesment of where you live.
The CS is my everyday car and I have an Audi A4 as a winter driver and need-more-space backup. I am comfortable with that in large part because most of my driving is from my home garage to my high security work garage. I am also comfortable running errands during the day and leaving my car parked fairly liberally because I live in the 'sleepy' suburbs where lots of guys have much nicer cars than mine.
Ocassionally I take the CS into NYC, and it's a totally different story there. I would NEVER park it on the street, and I don't even like parking it in most of the garages. I end up bribing guys to let me self park and take the key (which costs a fortune). The roads are terrible, actuallly worse than most of the developing counries I've visited, and the there are a lot of A-hole drivers to contend with, many of them uninsured. I wouldn't own this car if I lived in NYC or probably any major American city.
I use my Cayman as my daily driver. I live in Olive Branch, MS and work in Memphis, TN. My car isn't kept in a garage at either place and its been fine so far. That said, I would never take it to a bar setting. I wouldn't take it downtown at night either. I don't do anything to insight anger. I've seen some people that will take up two spots, or park in the furthest possible parking spot from a store. I think those two actions convey a better-than-thou attitude and makes the situation worse. Taking it to any emotionally charged situation (like a bar scene) is asking for trouble.
At 22, you have your whole life ahead of you to be practical. A family will require it. You can wait like I did but I don't necessarily recommend it.
I drivemine every day, except in snow. I have had only one door ding repaired so far and I am in and out of DC, suburbs, etc.Little league game in the suburbs and some little kids in an SUV whipped open the door. Their Dad rubbed the spot on my car loaded up his kids and left before I could check for damage.$100 ding repair later and you can't see a blemish.
The 70 mile roundtrip commuteon Virginia backroads is so enjoyable though that the occasional ding repair is worth it. I leave my stress behindas soon as I hit those roads...
The way I figure it is I bought the car to enjoy. You can either drive it and enjoy it ,or leave it in the garage and say ' It's such a great car,if only I could use it '.By the way, buy one, and the question will be answered for you. You'll be looking for an excuse to get in the car and drive it . It's worst than a chocolate addiction.
The Cayman S is my daily driver, the 911 Speedster, my Sunday drive. No sense in worrying about the car, after all, it is just a car. I guess you have to choose between:
Drive a Porsche everyday and worry
OR
Don't drive a Porsche and wish you were (driving a Porsche)
What is worse?
No man on their deathbed ever said, "I should have been more practical."
When I had an M3 and WRX I thought the Subaru would be my beater. Turns out I was just as particular where I parked the cheap car and took the same care of it as I did the expensive one. While my Cayman S is my hobby car and I can be a little more particular where I park it, I drive it as much as I can. If you want a Porsche, buy a Porsche and let the insurance company worry damage.
