Cayman Gang I need your help. All suggestions are welcome. I still have time to add to my order and would love to know what options you feel are important or just fun to have. Please tell me what you think and why. Needless to say I don't need heated seats in Hawaii.
Hmm, I am pretty sure we have done this one before. Have a look through the old messages. Oh, and I suggest you get xenon (safety), sports steering wheels (better shaped), and sports seats (I love it!). Everything else is optional.
Consider...ALL THE PERFORMANCE options! PASM, PCCB, sport shifter, exhaust etc.
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Take a look at how many of us are posting and how many are reading without posting, I am just trying to get some more people to share their thoughts and excitement. I never could find the thread where everyone shared there options, unless you mean the UK one. Anyway I would like to know WHY peoplepicked the options they chose.
For instance I am stuck on whether or not to take the Bi Xenon headlamps! My BMW has them and all they do is piss people off, so do I want them on my Cayman? How about full leather, the standard is pretty loaded, why go full?
Thanks for sharing,
Russ

Hi Russ, you are probably right. That has been discussed in various threads but maybe not on one specific one. There was also another thread talking about xenons which had some interesting points.
I ordered the sport wheel because it has a round center which gives a better view of the instruments, and considered a sport shifter, but I don't know what it looks like or what it offer above the standard? For $765 what do you get?
Does anyone know what the standard tailpipe is if the optiojn is chrome?
Thanks Russ

No word on the car cover, I will ask the manager when he gets back from the Atlanta meeting.
I guess Ferret must be out cutting a deal somewhere. I know exactly where he is coming from, and I do admire his agressiveness. In fact he even said he loves the art of the deal. I just have never been that way, I wish I was but it just ain't me.
Aloha Russ

Russ,
Any news on the Cayman car cover? What happened to the Ferret? He's gone into hiding.

To each his own!!! The only guy more excited about getting his Cayman than me is you. I really appreciate your enthusiasm in the anticipation of your Cayman. Are you going to try and make the LA Auto show in January? Porsche is going to have one hell of a display and will invite select customers to show up early on the opening day to preview and discuss w/ the factory guys.
I too would like people's opinion on full leather. Is the only difference between standard and full, the dash in leather? Would this not be recommended if the car is parked outside for about 8 hours every day in the sun?
I went for asthetics/residuals over everything else when I specced mine. I didn't spec any performance options because I'm using the car as an everyday car on UK roads. I did debate over PASM but in the end decided I couldn't justify an extra £1k on it. I got 19' wheels because it makes the car look alot better IMO. Full leather is a must on a car costing this much.

For looks, I have to say it's the rear center console in exterior or aluminum color. Having had 3 Boxsters the most comments I always get is the painted console. it certainly breaks up the interior color. It 's a shame painted exterior color still isn't available. However, aluminum look is, and that's what I'm going with for my Arctic silver as their is little difference.
