How can you tone it down... when you have an amazing car like the Cayman S?
My sales consultant told me to keep it slow for the first 1,500 KM... (car speed should be under 100 kph [62 mph]..)... Just enough time to break in the engine...
Can someone please explain why exactly?
I can't help going the extra kilometer.. or ten... LOL
My dealership told me to basically let her rip. Although keep the rpm below 5K for the first 1500 to 2000 miles. Also, vary the rpm when cruising during that breakin period.
And the 'break in' topic is off and running again for the umtenth time. Wonder if we can get up to a 1000 this time???
Drive it like the warranty expires in 4 years or 50,000 miles ...

Cayman S - a portable amusement park
My party time started at 500 miles and has been going strong ever since. I have very strong will power, but again I must blame it on the car......
My dealer told me keep it around 4k rpm for 1000 miles...but said Porsche officially has no stance. Implying that it 'should' only really matter on the back-end of your engines life ...150K plus miles.
This is my second Porsche and I hit them hard after 500 miles+. I have family in France that are all BIG Porsche fans and they say that the Europeans 'Drive them like hell' form day one!!! I have not had any problems as of yet with either car, 997 S with 9,000+ miles and the Cayman S with 2600...
I have heard reports from a Porsche mechanic of cars being driven out of the factory bouncing off the redline. Before being shipped and then 'broken in' by their new owners. They also test every engine on a dyno at full revs for power and oil leaks. Everything suggest that Porsche don't think break in for the engine is a big deal, or even required. However the whole cars needs bedding in and so does the driver.
I'm at 550 miles now and I'm trying to behave myself. So far, I guess I've probably been up at 5,500 on a couple of occasions in the last 100 miles. Keeping it below 5k is criminal on a car that sounds this sweet.
Once I get to 1000 miles, then all the rules are off. I only drive 6k per year, so after waiting 3 months for the car, waiting another 3 to be able to drive it like I drove the dealers car.... is going to be too tough to handle!
