2006 or 2007?

Hi all,

Newbie here...I know this is a much debated topic and I apologize if this has been asked before. I am currently in the market for a Cayman S and am debating whether to buy a 2006 for a decent price or wait for the 2007's to come out and order it with the options I want.

One of the threads I just read stated that the TPMS, the sport shifter, and the sport chrono pkg will be standard on the 2007's. Just wondering to those that have already placed orders for the 2007's, if they know this to be true or not. Of course it would be great if that were true and I would definitely wait instead of getting a 2006 for a reduced price. Also, I sure hope they fix the clutch issues that many seem to be having with their 2006's. Anyways, thanks for all your help and comments. I'm so glad this website is around to get all this great info!

Kevin

Don't think anyone knows for certain about the Cayman S yet since the order guides haven't been released.TPMS is standard for 07. Should see the order guides any day now as 07 Cayman S will be rolling off the assembly line. The 07 base model is already indealer's showroom and prices look the same (= no increase). If the sport chrono and sport shifter are standard in 07 without a price increase, think you'll see the fur flying around here again as much as when they announced the Boxster S was getting the Cayman S engine.

Guess it's a choice of whether you see a 2006 car you like at a price you'll pay or want a specific option list and color combo so that you'll have to special order a 2007.

None of us know much about what's going to be standard / options for 07...for the United States, TPMS has to be standard as far as I know...as far as sports chrono and the short shifter, those comments in an earlier thread have not been verified as the 07 order guides have no yet been released...as for whether or not you want an 06 or an 07, here's how I'd break it down:

model year 07: you probably will not be able to negotiate asbigof a discount as you would on an 06, so 07 would be a bitmore expensive, and you'd have to wait a while to get one (exact time will vary from dealership to dealership based on allocations, but figure at least 3-4 months)....on thepositive side for 07, you get the car exactly how you want is (spec-wise)...

model year 06....as I said....bigger discount, no wait time, but you are limited as to what's already out there in terms of what's on the car....

so the decision comes down to this: if you can find an 06 out there with just about all you want on it, then go for it, otherwise, bite the bullet and order an 07....in other words, don't settle for one that has important options (for you) missing...get it how you want it, or you'll regret it in the long run....btw, I ordered an 07

Thanks for the advice, guys. I will probably wait for the 2007 order guide to come out and make my decision then. Hopefully it'll come out soon!
