I just posted the article on the Mantis Sport Oil Sump Extension installation that was done at Woodhouse Porsche today. Check it out in the Articles section and let me know what you think!
Check with Mantis Sport on the price, I don' t recall and I don't remember if it was US dollars or Canadian. You can do this yourself but having a lift or getting the car high enough up on jackstands would certainly help. I would have done this myself, but my car was going in anyway and Woodhouse gave me a great deal on the install so I did it there.
I'm not clear how this mod works. Other than adding an extra 1.5 quarts to the engine capacity, how does it provide benefits for oil starvation and/or getting oil into the intake system?
Is there any evidence that the engine has oil starvation issues? If yes, under what conditions? Which tires?
How does it help with the oil consumption at the track?
Thanks.

sleepless - Here’s your explanation as per K-Man’s post.
Advantage is no more oil sucked into intake, no running dry during hard cornering on the track. Adds deeper sump pickup and about 1-1/2 more quarts of oil which also helps to keep engine oil temperatures cooler.

Reason: Post Oct ’06 Migration clean-up.
Tom Simmons Cayman had the problem at our last DE event, he was on Kuhmos that were about the same as slicks. My car didn't do it, but his did and other Cayman's have, so I view it as insurance to prevent this from happening. There is obviously a reason why some cars are doing it, but according to Mantis once they've applied this to their car that was doing it the problem hasn't happened again. I'd recommend a call to Mantis and they can probably give you a better depiction of what all is happening than I can. It was in fact a topic of discussion today at Parade among 356 and 911 owners when discussing the Cayman and mods to my car, evidently similar sump extensions were available in the past as well.
Oil ingestion in that he had a cloud of smoke coming out of his tailpipe, although that could be related to oil starvation if it created a vacuum causing the ingestion couldn't it? Like I said, Mantis can explain it better than I can. I didn't have the problem but figured I'd take the extra insurance of the deeper sump just in case.
Ken - Mantis' website is pretty basic & has no information or pricing. Rather than each of usinterested in the sump extension individually contacting them, any arrangements in the works for a sump extensionGroup Buy, assuming sufficient minumum orders? Depending on price, I'm interested. After all, I'm used to a 10 qt oil change from my last car.
