A note was posted elsewhere about hot exhaust tips (logical!), but has anyone had any leg or shindamage from touching them? A slight worry also about children, as always!

This actually happened to me when I was a child, about 3 or 4 years old. Obviously I don't remember the incident or the pain, but my parents told me I had to be rushed to the hospital after grabbing on to the tailpipes of a VW Beetle after it had just been driven. Ended up with 2nd degree burns on my hands. This was back around 1973 or 1974 - thankfully, there's no evidence of what happened to my hands today.



In addition, on my wedding day in 2001 my wife caught part of the train of her wedding dress on a hot tailpipe of a Pontiac Grand Prix, of all things. Melted some of the nylon trim on her dress and left a scorch mark.



Definitely be careful out there.

Yep, got my burn on the left shin. I had on short pants! Word to the wise: approach the rear hatch from the side or you'll get burned.

Yup, got singed on the tailpipe. I'm really paranoid about keeping my (slightly airheaded) Lab away from it now.

Burned on right shin, now have a burnt mark. Beware! (Twin Round Exhaust Pipes)
