I am back in my hotel room looking at the business card of Wolfgang Porsche and I still can't believe it. Tonight was our
PCA Presidents and officers dinner which I was invited to as the Cayman Register chairperson. I met several more
PCA members all of whom were extremely nice and often helpful with regard to all things
PCA and to some degree things Porsche as well.
I awarded Tom Bobbitt the outgoing president of
PCA a Cayman Register
t-shirt with both the new logo and old logo on it. He was estatic and got a kick out of the croc which he says he still prefers regardless of what Porsche AG attorneys or marketing people have to say about it! He also mentioned that he was at a driving event a couple of weeks ago in the Maryland area I believe and saw someone with a croc style shirt on, he thinks the person's name was Dan. So kudos to whomever you are!
The highlight of the evening was getting to spend time with Wolfgang Porsche and talking about the Cayman and Porsche specifically. I also asked him if I could interview him for the website and he gave me his card and told me to send him the questions and he would answer what he could. We talked about his Cayman S - he was emphatic that it was an 'S'! It is Speed Yellow with Sea Blue full leather interior, yellow seat belts and PCCB brakes and he drives it regularly. His other car is a Turbo Cayenne S which he uses for hauling the whole family around and his wife drives a 911 Cab. We talked about taking the Cayman racing and he believes it would be successful but he is unsure of what series it could race in where it would not compete with the 911. I said something to the effect of 'Some people at Porsche might not want to see the Cayman beat the 911' to which he responded something like 'this is true!' but thought that the Cayman would make a wonderful car to race.
We talked about a few other things and I didn't want to monopolize his time as others were wanting to talk to him as well, but as a parting gesture I thanked him and his family for coming and I asked that he express my thanks to the entire Porsche organization for building such a wonderful car! He smiled and accepted my thanks. A very nice man I must say.
Well it's late and I need to hit the road in the morning but wanted to share this with you before going off to bed. Raise a toast to the Cayman!
