I probably will eventually. I had my window tinted on my black e-36 m3, but not on my current silver boxster S. There wasnt really a point with the boxster. I think it always depends on the color of car you go with and my cayman is going to be black.I always thought black looked a little meaner with window tint, but silver and some lighter colors it didnt make much of a difference. Just my two cents.
Yes black looks good with a nice tint. I tinted my black 330CI and it looked good, but it was a titanium type and look lousy from the inside looking out! It was kind of cloudy looking. I want to be real careful this time and get the right thing. My color is cobalt blue with sand beige and I was thinking about some kind of amber tint. Well I have plenty of time to figure it out.
Nope. It reduces vision and seems dangerous to me. I had it on my black 911 years ago and thought it looked good but I think I'm past that now. If the Cayman needs window tinting to remain cool in New Mexico sunshine (300 plusdays a year) then I made a mistake in my purchase. So far no independant has driven the Cayman for any reasonable amount of time in hot weather conditions to know if there is an a/c cooling problem.
Good point SF. The one I have in my BMW does reduce visibility along with some heat, but I sure won't go ahead and do it without some time in the seat.
I am going to start watching for any kind of Porsche with tinted windows to see what I think. I think the point Santa Fe made about it reducing vision is almost enough for me to say forget it. I almost hate to change anything from the stock lock, but time will tell.
I will wait and see on this one. Usually get windows done as soon as I get the car. The tinting definitely keeps the interior temp down and eases the load on the A/C through my experience. The last two cars I had done w/metallized film which is more transparent but better at blocking out the harmful stuff (according to installer & website). Good point about the light interior as well, since I took gray I am not sure if it will heat up like the dark ones I have in current cars.
I usually get mine done at the dealer, but I think I will wait and see what I think after I see and drive the car. I noticed a window screen thing for the rear glass in the Tequipment catolog, that might be something to look into as well.
I will do the lightest possible tint. In the past I have done a medium tint but with a dark interior is makes it look even darker.......so I'll go with a lighter one this time.
Both of my prior Porsches and most of my regular cars have had tinted windows. Here in Arizona it reallycuts down the heatbut you needhigh quality tinting. It can cut visibilty slightly although I've never had a big problem with it at night.
