Where can I see Meteor Grey ?

Hi all

This is my first post. Im currently a Boxster S owner, expecting delivery of my Cayman in December. Im trying to decide which colour to go for, having narrowed it down to Atlas, Basalt or Meteor. Something that would help me decide would be if I could see some decent quality pics of how Meteor actually looks... as opposed to how it appears on the Porsche configurator.... which isnt very accurate when it comes to representing colours. I know Meteor has appreared on previous Porschemodels, and Ive come across a couple of photos on the internet of some older cars.... but cant find anything of good enough quality to get a really good feel for how the colour will really look.

My local OPC (Aberdeen, UK) dont have anything coming in on Meteor before I need to make my final decision. they dont even have a colour sample plate, or a brochure with a colour sample in it !! Are all the dealers the same ??

Anyone got any good ideas ?

I dont think Id risk picking it unless I was convinced it was gonna look really good, but by the same token...Id hate to rule it out without anything to base the decision on... dya know what I mean ?

My current Boxster is in Meridian, which I think is a really lovely variation of silver... and I thinkMeteor could be equally nice.

ive searched this site and although theres been discussion on Meteor, cant find any relevant links.

thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have.

The Cayman would look really good in meridian, too bad it's not offered except as a specialorder. My sense of meteor is that it's more silver brown which I think is less appealing than seal or meridian.

CMC, I ordered last Thursday night! My dealer had a 8 x 20 swatch of the color and I held next to seal grey boxster, it's close, DaveC may be right, it is a little taupe looking. I'm in the printing business and my graphics people would say warmgrey. I ordered the sand beige interior with it and I think it will complement the outside well. Obvious a whole car will look different than an 8 x 10 square but it doesn't appear to be to far off of from seal grey and I believe anyone familiar with Porsche would first think it's seal grey. I almost played it safe and ordered artic silver, but man there's just to many of them around. Good luck!

Boxman, what you're describing sounds like Slate Grey - have you seen that and can you comment on how it compares?

No I can't. I just did a search for Meteor grey pictures though and found out it was a 1980's color for 911's. Supposedly it wasthe color of Ferry Porsche's limited edition car back then. On Ebay there's a some great pictures of a 1986 Targa for sale at Victory Motors in Meteor grey, check it out, the interior looks like it's red. I'm impressed with the outside color. If you look at the new 07 books out, slate and meteor are very close, slate is slightly darker. The difference to me between slate and meteor looks to me to bethe same difference between artic and GT, not much in color, but a lot in the money figure!

The Meteor grey that will be on the Caymans is different then that on past models/years. Entirely new.

Fuser, that's not what I wanted to hear! I liked what I had seen on past cars, hopefully it won't be to far off. I still think it's not much darker than the past seal grey and looking a the LITTLE paint swatch in the booklet it's not far off from slate. IMO. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow night again and I will ask to to see the paint swatch again and compare it to slate grey.

Thanks for the replies everyone. A couple of comments...

Boxman, I checked out that Targa on ebay. I agree it looks a lot like seal, but my concern is it doesnt look at all like any other Meteor Ive see on the net, which have all looked grey with a brown/goldhint through it. I see that this ebay model does specifically mention Meteor, but Im not so sure.

Fuserchris, I spoke toa salesman atmy local OPC, and his view was that it would be exactly the same as the previous version of Meteor... something to do with the name / colour being patented, and therefore they are not permitted to change the colour without giving it a new name !!??

From your comments it sounds like there are colour samples available at some dealers. Mine has told me that no dealers have them yet. Any of you other UK guys seen one yet ?

thanks again

I have been told that the new meteor grey is just that, a new color mix and not the same as the old meteor grey.

Boxman, please download the pic from there and post it here as I'm not about to log into that site to view a pic...
