After having our cars for an extended period of time now, how has the rear hatch held up over the constant strain of driving/racing your Caymans? Is anyone getting any squeaks, rattles or thumps from their rear hatch?
Considering the hatch is directly attached to the frame (and not the glass as in the old 944?) I would expect it to remain solid. But has anyone had any problems or concerns of this nature?
My only issue has been with the weight in the lower part of the hatch. It's now wrapped in felt, so the sound is not as harsh, but on a solid bump it still crashes. OTHERWISE, THE CAR IS AMAZINLY QUIET.
After 9,800 miles, lots of autocrosses and lots of high-speed highway driving, the car is quiet, no squeaks or rattles whatsoever. Nothing from the rear hatch at all.

Ive got what I think is a loose hatch issue. It must have been there from the start but didnt fully catch it before I bought. It only 'thumps' after certain small'er' road bumps and its definately coming from higher up in the car. Im also about to remove the trunk divider thing as that tends to rattle alot too. Ive been wanting to take it to the dealer but dont want to lose my car for however long it might take to fix it right now...
Ekoostick..when did you notice it? I am at 3000 miles and no probs whatsoever, in either highway cruising or suburban grocery shopping or high speed/high rev play.
10,000+ miles here and no rattles unless the spring thingies from the hatch with the black material touch the aluminum cross bar, but I can prevent that. Hatch seems to be very solid and quiet.
My dealer discovered that some of the rubber bumper guards were missing from my rear hatch. I don't recall the part number but I do believe that the dealers have a service bulletin from PCNA about this problem. My rear hatch fits tightly and makes no noise whatsoever.
After owning a 968, more than a few 928s (still have one) , and now a Cayman.......Porsche hatches are all pretty stout if in good condition and make no noise if adjusted properly. They all will make noise at some point in time......sometimes even annually with temp swings, but most if not all can be taken care of quickly with minor adjustments and some weather stripping lube. So far I have heard my hatch make a noise about 1 or 2 times over a serious 'quick' bump.
The hatches are also pretty darn heavy. I recently replaced the gas hatch struts on the 928......and without them you will give yourself a nice workout just lifting the hatch up. The Caymans should be a bit lighter.....but they are heavier than you would think.

I actually thought I noticed it on my test drive...but couldnt get the car to repeat it consistently though. Dealer said drive it and bring it in if it gets worse...which it has. Its really weird as it happens alot more at low speeds 20-40 mph and just over certain bumps. Im going to swing by today to see what they want to do. Hopefully its just an adjustment.
