Audi are prep-ing an RS version of their new Allloy TT, 7 speed DSG, Autocar say its going to be a 5 pot (?) twin turbo with 350 BHP!...........Here in 2008!
Cayman RS coming?.........................You bet YOU!
The new generation TT has extensive use of aluminum in its body, chassis, and suspension. Weight distribution is said to be around 55/45 f/r. Also weighs less than Mk I version, something that doesn't happen much these days. We won't see even the base model in the US until 2008.

No disrespect to the Audi, but there are a lot of cars you can buy for less that have impressive performance specs. Would you buy a BMW M, and Mitsubishi EVO, the upcoming Nissan GT-R? All great cars, they're just different cars. Porsche has a great position in the marketplace in that it falls between the up-scale mass market marks like Audi & BMW to name the Germans and the exotics like Lambos andFerraris. Here in the states, IMO, the Porsche brand is more closely identified with the exotics. There are much fewer of them on the road than Audis or BMWs and styling ismuch more exclusive. I'm sure Porsche will keep pace with the competition, but I don't think the TT is going to kick them into high gear anymore than the BMW M coupe or the 'hot' cars that have preceeded. I find it amazing that people on this site want to portray the Cayman as long in the tooth and in need of an image overhaul when it's been out for a grand total of 8 months and still the darling of the majority of the automotive press. In short, Audi or some one will build a lighter, faster, and stronger car. It wont lap you at the track, and it will still be an Audi and the Cayman will still be a Porsche. Some where locked in a room Porsche has already mapped out the next 6-7 years, a new offering from Audi will not send them scurrying to redraw their business plan.

Cayman too has extensive use of aluminium in its suspension.
Chassis? Logic tells me thatthe torsional rigidy of analuminium unibody will notbeas strong as a steel one.
Proper way of using aluminium in chassis is of 'honeycomb sandwich' construction. Very stiff indeed. But I doubt the TT is that! Correct me if I'm wrong..
Great thread, guys! Audi still ties for #1 in interiors and fit and finish. They are way up on performance in the last few years too. David's insightful comments are very valid. It's still a fine car and an Audi. Porsche is a different emotion and execution entirely. I think it's fair to say in a different league of ability, as well. Still,Lots of interesting stuff out there these days. Guys like Lexus, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Maserati, Acura are all 'blowing us away' with improvements in styling, technology, features and performance. This is a very good time for automotive enthusiasts! and of course with Porsche owning 20% of VW/Audi I'm sure they know exactly what cars they plan to produce and how they can take advantage of VW technology.
