I just finished the installation. The whole job too about 1.5 hours including all the starts and stops.

I did a couple of things differently:

1) Applied shrink tube to the portions of the pins that would be exposed when inserted into the unit. I'm neurotically fussy about doing things right but electrical tape would work too.

2) Cut a small slit at the top end of the plastic wrap and pulled the door side yellow and black wires to the outside of the sleeve. This allowed me to pull the barrier sleeve back over the large connector as Father Porsche intended.

3) The power and ground wires to the units should be about 2 inches longer than supplied. Unless you unwrap all of the tape from lower harness and install the Tee taps as far as possible from the big connector the power wires will be too short to allow proper placement of the unit. An extra 2 inches of wire will save having to completely remove all the binding tape and speeding up installation. I had extra tee tap connectors and remade the supplied power and ground wires.

4) I appled foam tape to the corners of the unit to prevent any possibility of it rattleing against the body or back side of the carpeted fusebox cover.

5) Despite trying not to disturb the window, my driver side window was out of sync after the install requiring resetting. I think this procedure should be noted in the manual for those who don't know how to do it.

Mods4cars, great little unit you've created. I feel so much better having audible confirmation of the car locking now! Great job!

Silversled.

Finished the installation today and it took about 1 hour. I've placed the unit on the upper left corner of the fuse box,, which required the power source to be tapped as far as possible from the bottom portion of the connector. Otherwise, the installation went OK.

Note that since my car is a Tiptronic S, the Reverse / Mirror Tilt function does not work, which will be addressed by a software upgrade according to Steven Wilhemy. So, those of you with Tiptronic will have to wait for the fix.

Just finished installing ( took me a couple of hours as I was afraid to break those boxes and exercised excessive caution. Works great...fell like I definitely got my money worth.

Installed the unit this afternoon in about 1.3 hours working very slowly ---- well actually a very good friend (who spent his younger years as a service mechanic) did the install as I watched and provided assistance.

Silversled, I like your ideas about the shrink wrap and the slit in the plastic wrap. we used some tape around the connectors on the unit, but shrink wrap would have been a little neater. I think I might go back in and do a little mending on the plastic and bring it back down back around the wires (as Father Porsche intended as you suggested).

We had no problem with the length of the wiring as he was very careful in measuring the placement of the unit prior to attaching the clamps on the power and ground wires.

The passenger side window was out of synch after the install, but a up/down cycle put everything right.

All in all, very smooth install --- thanks to all that went earlier and updated the instructions. The unit is great and it does just exactly what I wanted it to do [not sure how much I'll use the dropping mirror for reverse as I've never been much of a fan of that particular function]- and what was expected -- guess you can't ask for much more than that! Thanks to Mods4cars for the unit -- and thanks to all on the list that pulled the group buy together.

Just did the install, took about an hour and I'm usually horrible at stuff like this.

If I can do it, anyone can.

The biggest hold up was getting the wiretap on the ground wire, it went on the power wire no problem.

I didn't have any issues with wire length or having to unwrap much of the plastic.

I did unwrap the fabric tape on the bottom connector to pull out the yellow/black wire but I rewrapped it back up.

I also did have issues with the drivers window being out of sync but a quick up/down and it was set.

I did have one issue regarding the comfort windows. They went down fine when I unlocked it but the passenger side didn't go up when I locked the doors.

I'm not sure if maybe it had to do w/ the windows being out of sync but it worked the second time I tried it.

Might have just been a first try glitch.

Overall, an awesome product. Much easier to install than I expected. My only recommendation would be a slightly larger wiretap for the ground wire because it is thicker than the power wire.

Anyone taken in their car for inspection/service at their Porsche dealer after installing the unit? I've just installed it this afternoon and really like it! However, I'll be taking in my car to the dealer (Porsche of Fremont, CA) for my 90-day checkup and want to make sure I don't raise any questions. I know the document says to remove the unit before taking in to the dealer, but that's too much trouble.

WOW! Talk about initiative. The on-line manual and the supersized photos should make this install a snap. Kudos, Stefan! I did Silversled's bullet point #2 as well. I think the plastic is more for protection during the manufacturing process, but it still comes that way so I preserved it.

just turn it off though the software...its not hard at all. supposed to be invisible when off. I used to do that with my APR chip in my old audi.

I got mine installed last week and i love it. The best part is hearing the beeps...now i dont look like a fool turning around and staring at the lights to make sure it locked. the homelight XL and window roll down is cool too.

Mine was installed last week, works great. Remember the passenger side mirror dip works only if you have the adjustment knob in the passenger position. Otherwise no go. It took me a day to remember it and figure it out.
