Anecdotally, some folks are getting close to that asking price on brand new units. Not sure what's involved in the Porsche CPO program, it actually costs BMW dealers a couple of grand to get that certification on their cars. I would search on Edmunds.com for the invoice on that car when new, and you should be able to get it a couple thousand less than that I would think. The most important factor is if it's a car with options that you really like, or are you just 'settling' because it's a good deal.

Find out if the car was a used trade in or a demo. If trade in, ask for about $4k more off, if demo, the asking price is fair and the dealer has to pay about ~$1000 to do a certification on a low-mileage car and they themselves buy the car for invoice minus any other dealer incentives at the time, which are few with Porsche. Still, ask for some money off as there is always profit in the deal, including the dealer prep fee. Silent Will's plan seems like a good one, but you might not get very close to that price so don't be discouraged; you're still getting a great deal and a better warranty than those getting a new Cayman S for similar pricing. Also, check comprehensively for paintwork, even touch-up paintwork. Our CPO's often had paintwork done by the dealer because people took them out as demo's and did some minor damage; look for orange peel, and run your fingers along the creases of the car to make sure everything is smooth. - Suneet
I posted this last week on another forum at somebodies request...it might help you out some. Its wholsale auction prices on used 06 caymans from manheim. CPO is $1500 plus any parts they replaced, etc...

You just asked for $6-7K off his asking price and thought he would go for it? The auction stats are good information, no way you're going to get it for less than those cars have been selling for.

If it was a trade-in, I'm guessing the best you will do is 53,900 plus tax, tag and title. Dealerships typically hate dealing with an out the door price; I know as a salesman if I came back with an out the door offer the managers always got pretty upset. I'm sure he owns the car for more than $52,000 after certification, detail, dealer pack. - Suneet
My definition of 'out the door' includes all applicable sales taxes, license fees, etc. In Texas, we pay 6.25% sales tax, a state capped $50 doc fee usually, license fees, and in some counties (like mine) a few other small fees that usually cost $25 or less. Even if I buy out of state, I will have to pay all of these fees except for the dealer doc. So when you said $52K 'out the door' I interpreted that as including all taxes and fees making your actual sales price for the car in the $48-49K range. I'm with Suneet on this, I want to know the actual sales price of the car, then I know what taxes and fees are appropriate on top of that. Anything else is dealer fluff.
