Are many of you ordering self dim mirror/rain sensor? Nice to have, but for $690! I haven't had a car without self dimming mirrors for some time. Seems kind of strange for a high 60's / 70K car. I have had rain sensor in my last 3 cars (CLK, S4, M3) and would miss it a bit.
BTW, to those who have seen me struggle over color choice, I believe I have decided on the Carmon Red with sand beige full leather interior. A classy, yet sporty combo. I thought hard about the two tone, but do not like the gray in the center dash / rear console area and the sand just matches the Carmon perfectly. There is a lot of carpeting in this car and the sand will look better against the Carmon.
My final two options I am deciding on is the auto climate control and heated seats. Don't particularly like the former (resale only issue) and don't need the latter in Austin.
Skipping all of these marginal options saves $1,720 (690+550+480). Not huge, but not insignificant.
That takes my configuration to $69,065
Carmon red metallic paint,
sand beige full leather,
PCM,
bi-xenon,
leather sports steering wheel,
sport seats,
Bose,
colored wheel caps,
floor mats
Carmon and Sand.....one of THE best combos I can think of.When you see it in front of your eyes you will be glad you did it!
I didn't order the self dim/rain sensor either.....I don't think I will miss themone bit. I will be tinting my windows (not real dark) and that has proven to bejust fine with non-self dimming mirrors in the past. My present Porsche doesn't have them and its perfect at night with the medium tint on the windows. Can't say about the rain sensor except I will be driving my beater when it rains instead of the Cayman.
I'm in a hot climate also and won't be needing the heated seats.......nice for a Boxster or in a cold climate......but I only used them once or twice in previous cars that had them.
I did order climate control even though I will probably use it in manual mode most of the time........it really is niceto know its there and for resale value........only thing my dealer really 'recommended' on the Cayman.
I've ordered the same color combo...I've seen it on a new Boxter S and it looks fantastic, although I've been rethinking it a bit. It's more of a luxury sport coupe color, like a Lexus SC. Been considering changing it to black/black with the aluminum-trimmed interior to bring it more in line with a true sport look...my current TT coloring, which receivesalot of compliments.
Regarding the options, I've ordered the Pref Pkg Plus for $4990, which gives you the self-dim mirrors & rain sensor along with the bixenon lamps, power heatedseats, mats, bose/cd-chgr, wheel caps. Added the climate control for $550 (which I love in my TT) and sport wheel/lthr $740. Total pkg $68,895. Considering adding PASM for $2K (see my Forum Topic on this...).
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Great choice. I had a 911 Carerra in Arena Red with Savannah interior, essentially the same as Carmon and Sand. Got lots of compliments on it and it was a color combination I never got tired of. I had that car for a few years so I thought I would go with Seal Grey this time. However the carpet does show dirt a little more than the darker colors.
On the dirt issue, I have black carpeting in my M3, and I have found that black shows little bits of stuff on the carpeting more than any color I have had before. I guess it depends on the color of the dirt?
I guess regular vacuuming will be in order either way.
There is a great looking Carmon and Sand Carrera S at Cars.com that turns up when you search 2005 Carreras. I thought about this exterior color as well before I ordered, but when I went to the dealer to look at a Boxter in that color you could not tell much under the dust. In the pictures it looks very rich to me. Great choice!

Sport Chrono and Chrono Plus
This optional package is a valuable addition for trackday use. Available in conjunction with the CDR-24 CD radio, it includes a swivel-mounted analog and digital timer unit which is centrally located on the dashboard. All functions are easily accessible via the control stalk for the on-board computer. Analog dials measure hours, minutes and seconds, while a separate digital field displays whole seconds, tenths and one hundredths of a second. A second digital display runs in parallel in the instrument cluster. Click this Link to visit the FAQ entry for Sport Chrono.

I have an 04 C2 Cab in Carmon Red. You will love that color. Yes it does get dirty rather quickly but so do all the dark colors. The advantage to this is that you get to wash it more often which is almost as much fun as driving it! Congrats and be sure to post pics when you get it.
