Cyamn doors that open up

Anyone seen the Cayman Door MOD that opens the doors up instead of out? Total not needed, but very neat looking! I always wondered if lifting the door up required more mechanics and weight to a car? And what is the benefit other than the COOOL factor?

They're called "Lambo-style" doors. They're showing up on a lot of 'tuner' cars and rice-mobiles with fake carbon fiber hoods/trunks that open up in the middle, and do nothing for performance. IMO they look quite tacky/ugly and don't belong anywhere on a Porsche.

Every car forum you'll ever visit has this question come up sooner or later.

These door mods are getting more common and as such more kits are out there. My understanding however is that the quality of the kits varies greatly.

I'm not sure what the advantage might be other than looks. Maybe easier ingress/egress in confined spaces, but they do require more overhead clearance (probably not too much of an issue with a low car like the Cayman).

I'm not a fan, but if you do it, you have to put some pics up here. I think it's like a law or something.

As for me, I'm just taking the doors off - Jeep style. They just get in my way anyway.

Lambo doors that should stay on Lambo's...or rice wagons.

They should never be allowed anywhere near a Pcar.

Not to mention the fact that if you ever manage to flip the Cayman with those doors, you're just asking for trouble. It would be hard enough to get out upside down with the doors out (and open), but you couldn't do that with the Lambo doors.

Safety hazard.

I was just reading about the new Lambo Spyder no longer has the Lambo doors. Not sure if I like that change.

Depends which Lambo, the Murcielago (sp?) has the scissor doors on coupe and convertible, while the newer Gallardo has conventional doors on coupe and convertible.

Swan,

You are right, it was the new Gallardo Spyder. They call it the entry level Lambo starting at only 195K MSRP.
