I was wondering how many of you were planning on leaving off the front plate. It may be different state to state, but here it seems none of the Porsches I have seen have front plates. Would a front plate block any of the airflow?
None required in NM. In other states I've always had it off but available with some story about needing the correct drill bit to mount it or some such story. Never stopped because of a missing front plate but was stopped for speeding. Then I was able to nudge the front up close enough to a barrier so that the missing plate wasn't noticed. It sure messes up the lines of Porsches.
That was a pretty good idea. I do not want a front plate at all, it just looks terrible. I think I will also ask my dealer to leave it off and volunteer to signa disclaimer.
I’m in Southern CA and have never displayed a front plate and will NOT start with my Cayman, even though it is the law to display one. What I do if given a fix-it ticket is temporarily affix the front plate with Velcro, drilled holes will not happen.

Reason: Post Oct ’06 Migration clean-up.
Not required in North Carolina. I would only put one on if there was a really classy Porsche plate, very wide, that would add class to the car. I haven't seen such an animal yet.
I am sure one of you must know what is this if it is not an air intake.
I am talking about the black space in the center of the 2 air intakes where the plate would go, does it serve any useful purpose? Thanks Russ
I had a look at that space today on the Cayman in Torrance. It serves no purpose and has a plastic cover in it. Looks like it could house another radiator. I had heard that the Tiptronics do get some extra cooling. I wonder if this area is where that happens?
Thanks for that report. I kind of expected as much but I sure was going to check it out tomorrow when I see the Cay in person. I don't want front plates even if that space does serve no purpose.
