As Maxwell Smart would say, "Missed it by that much." Porsche tied with the Toyota Camry during first-round voting, but lost the runoff. Significance and value rule: Everyman can lust after the Cayman; everyman can own the Camry.
What tipped the vote against it? Porsche is clearly holding back Cayman power to make room for its costlier 911 icon, a car that it in its basic form has been around since "Get Smart" was on prime-time Saturdays.
While Porsche's Cayman didn't capture the calipers, we all agree this sports car is the one you're most likely to see on the cover of Motor Trend Classic a quarter century from now.
Bet you didn't know:
Porsche has fitted the Cayman S with taller first and second gears so it won't beat a 911 to 60 mph.
Another reason to take good care of your Cayman. You are driving a classic. Twenty-five years from now, hope they have 93 octane gas, someone will thank you.
Can somebody explain how the taller 1-2 gears in Cayman causes it to be slower than 911 0-60?
If anybody has some insight knowledge with physics etc would be excellent.
Thanks.
Nah check the Articles section here, there are several actual tests where the Cayman pulled in 4.8's and more than 1G. Nice to see it confirmed again, that is if they did a new test, those I think are their numbers from an earlier test just reprinted.
I was kidding about above losing respect for MT they are a decent publication but I don't understand why cars like a Camry, Kia and Cayman can all be pitted against each other, seems a bit silly.
Never safe for me to assume, but I figure they are using same system as at dog shows: each individual is judged against "standards" for that type, and Best in Show is the one who comes closest to its own standard. Doesn't make one car/dog "better" than another; does mean it succeeds at what it is supposed to be.
