Third brake light on Cayman/Boxster

Picked up my sister's '07 Boxster and noticed that the third brake light is clear v. the red brake light on my '07 Cayman. Not a big deal but kind of interesting why Porsche would do that. I presume it is for purely aesthetic reasons?

Does anyone know if you can purchase a clear third brake light as an option or aftermarket?
Not really noticeable, but i'd like to have one to match the clear corners up front.

The third brake light on my '05 Boxster is also clear. Sounds like they are red on Caymans and clear on Boxsters.

Could the light assemblies be the same, but just have different lenses/covers? Maybe the two covers can be swapped between each other?

I've never noticed the clear third brake light on the Boxsters, but that kind of bothers me 'cause of the fact that it is clear. Does the third brake light on the Boxsters emit a clear or red light? Or are you just stating that the covers are clear/red and that they emit red light?

Carnewal sells white or smoked led third brake lights for the boxster. I wonder if they would fit the Cayman.

Correct. It's lights up red, but the lense is clear.

The Boxster 3rd brake light is embedded in the bodywork of the car and is a completely different shape than the Cayman version, which is in the bottom of the back window... they sure don't look interchangeable to me...

I like our red lights. Clear might look weird on my midnight blue baby.
