I'm sure all of you know the Top Gear, this is the best car show IMHO. And this guy is (was) my hero untill he did the review on the Cayman S.
I thought he would have loved the car, but he was bashing it left and right, i dont know whether it was because he really didnt like it or if he was trying to piss off the director (u'll get it when you watch).
But i've got to say, i'm rather disappointed in him...
newb( ), this is one of the most talked about events regarding the Cayman S and it's alleged less-than-ideal performance. Jeremy Clarkson is too full of himself. He despises Pcars in general if I'm not mistaken.

pretty fair actually, praises the cars dynamics, slams it on value, and looks are subjective. Also, i think porsche did do some engineering by marketing, to protect the 911 franchise. the car should have had a 3.6 from day one (flame suit on). also, jeremy likes, no loves to "stir the pot" so i would take it with a little grain of salt. english humor is way more subtle than american. i think cayman looks good, and i still want one!
Hell I'll take the 3.8 X-51 package for that matter! Farnbacher Loles style.

I have to reiterate as well that as a new user please use the SEARCH tool to try and locate some of these items first so as not to needlessly duplicate something that might have been discussed many times before, such as this particular topic.
I just saw the video for the first time now, after having heard so much about the review and how everyone hated Clarkson now because of this review of the CS, but you know, I think it's "spot on". Clarkson's making sure we know he is ribbing the director for one thing, and I think alot of his comments are "tongue in cheek". Also, he gripes about everything we have complained about: how the price skyrockets when you add all the options you want, how the car's performance was compromised so as not to step on the 911, how it needs LSD, and so on. He does say the control and performance is exceptional, and the car seems to be going amazingly fast on the track: the video would certainly sell me on the CS if it needed selling to me, but I already done bought. I think he was just giving the director hell. And we all know we pay an exhorbitant price for entry. Possibly too much, but hey, we gotta have it!
LSD - Limited Slip Differential
A limited slip differential (LSD) is a modified or derived type of differential gear arrangement that allows for some difference in rotational velocity of the output shafts, but does not allow the difference in speed to increase beyond a preset amount. In an automobile, such limited slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity.
The main advantage of a limited slip differential is found by considering the case of a standard (or "open") differential where one wheel has no contact with the ground at all. In such a case, the contacting wheel will remain stationary, and the non-contacting wheel will rotate freely– the torque transmitted will be equal at both wheels, but will not exceed the threshold of torque needed to move the vehicle, thus the vehicle will remain stationary. In everyday use on typical roads, such a situation is very unlikely, and so a normal differential suffices. For more demanding use however, such as driving off-road, or for high performance vehicles, such a state of affairs is undesirable, and the LSD can be employed to deal with it. By limiting the velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels, useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.

Wow. I read that old post about Clarkson. It was new to me too.
I have to say, I saw the video of the episode in question and I was dissapointed that he bashed the Cayman a bit, but one guy not liking the car isn't going to change the way I feel. It was obvious to me that he had an axe to gring, and even though he tried real hard to do so, he ultimately complimented the car. And when the Stig drove it the time was very resepctable.
OK, so the Coxster isn't for him. That's cool. He can drive something else.
Jeez, I think some of you are taking JC's rants too seriously. So what if he says things about the Cayman. I think he's hilarious. I'm not going to choose my car by his advice, but he's great entertainment.
