Gang,
For those who don't read the website area of this forum we've been discussing the creation of a Cayman
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) to help guide members new and old to definitive sources of information. This forum software has the capability to store
FAQ information directly in the forum database and present it in an
FAQ format. In fact if you look up at the navigation bar above there is an
FAQ link right next to the UserCP link. If you click on that
FAQ link you will see both the full blow vbulletin
FAQ - how to use this forum software - along with just a sample Cayman
FAQ.
Our first step is to set up a taxonomy or directory structure for the
FAQ
Our second step is to fill in the
FAQ with content.
The first item, the taxonomy, is currently being developed by myself and a few other interested parties. Once that structure is set up we will need content, that's where YOU come in, at least if you are interested anyway. What I will need from anyone who provides content is their submission in HTML format for whichever section(s) they want to work on. You can use just about any standard HTML tags so including hyperlinks, pictures, etc. will be easy for those who know their way around HTML. Those who don't should get help from others who do or work in teams to hand me final content.
Once I receive a submission I will add it to the
FAQ filling in the spots along the taxonomy until we have as much information as we can in the
FAQ.
Here's an example, one of the items we want in the
FAQ is a description of all of the major options and time permitting we may come back and do some minor ones later. You might decide that you want to author something on option XLA the tequipment exhaust tip so you write up a submission that describes the item, lists its cost and includes a picture and a link to a discussion of that item in the forum. You submit it to me via email or PM (email preferred) and I install it into the
FAQ.
Now when someone clicks the
FAQ they will be able to drill down in the taxonomy and read all about that particular option and quickly find a link to where it is being discussed or has been discussed in the forum.
I and the moderators will also post a new user guide in the near future that will direct new members to the
FAQ as a good starting point for information. The
FAQ can also be used for when a new user ignores the
FAQ or user guide and just posts a question that has been asked and answered in the forum and by the
FAQ now instead of searching the forum trying to find that old thread we can simply direct them to the
FAQ.
What I need at this point are volunteers to work on sections of the
FAQ. In order to jumpstart everyone on this project I have decided to post the DRAFT outline/taxonomy for the
FAQ. The final one will be posted soon and the final structure will be put into place in the
FAQ area awaiting content. If you have any comments, questions or additions, etc. for this taxonomy please post them here as a response. Thanks!
DRAFT as of 12/9/06

PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
|
 |
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.
