I took the car and the key for a test drive. With the key in the ignition, the sheath did not hit my leg, a problem with the colorful Cayman Key fob from Porsche. Then I put the sheathed key in my pocket of my Levis and walked around. No inadvertent locking or unlocking of the Cayman either. So far, so good.
The '07 BMW solution with the fob you have to insert in a slot and then push a start button is two steps back to me however. One reason we passed on a BMW wagon in favor on an '07 Audi.
Somehow I have adjusted to the Porsche key and no longer have the unwanted commands. But it seems that all makes have decided that the key is a part of the marketing "halo" rather than a logical functional device and have saddled us with these unwanted bricks. I'm sure you have seen GM's proposed new key that is a mini-computer that checks tire pressure and who knows what else.
Yep, we added a Quartz Grey Avant to the fleet. I'm really in love with it and am looking forward to the diesel version in a few years so I can pretend to be a LeMans winner...
