Do you get an "attitude" from others ... from driving a Porsche?
I'm talking about Joe Smoe Average owner here. Work for a living, go about your normal daily lives ... Not Donald Trump If you live in an area where Porsches or exotics are common, maybe LA or Miami, then thats not what I am talking about. Think middle America.
So my question is ... Do you get any "attitude" when ppl find out you have a Cayman?
If I'm talking to just normal people ... not car nuts ... normal people you see everyday and the subject of cars come up, like for repairs.
If I said I bought a BMW Z4M, people would yawn and not know what it is. BMWs are ubiquituous. Pick a Mall parking lots and its a sea of them. etc. etc. etc.
But when you say Porsche ... Its a blank face. Lips tighten up. No further discussion.
Whats with that?... its like a Porsche comes from a different planet
Not to me. I think, as we have discussed in other posts on the similar subject, that most of that comes from a defensive attitude by the owner. If you introduce the topic as a "look what I have" you get the look. If your head is on a swivel looking to see what others think of your car while driving you get the look. I've owned a bunch of exotics and I cannot tell the difference in acceptance but maybe that is the crowd I hang around with??? I have been corrected that I own the Pepper thing however.

No, I never bring it up ... ever. I will only respond when pressed for an answer. Usually, I am very introverted and do not volunteer info like that in a normal discussion. In fact, my wife has it during the week ... I just use it on the weekends.
Its a vibe I get, that's all I can describe it as.
As you said, if your around exotics, that may be the different reason too.

Any other ideas?
Sorry I meant my crowd could care less about exotics, now if we are talking how much hay you can carry it can pretty brutal....
I too have noticed people giving my Cayman the look see. I live in S. Fl. so we have many imported autos(M.B.,B.M.W., etc.)but a red Cayman is pretty nice to look at. I don't mind, just comes with the Cayman territory.
No need to hate to introduce it because thats a different subject. That is discussing how other drivers want to race you or whatever. I'm discussing an attitude or vibe like ... your coming from another planet.
I think the only time I get a 'defensive' reaction is when people who are not familiar with the car and ask what make it is, and I pronounce "Porsche" correctly (Poor-sha). For some reaosn, people think your are a snob if you don't just call it a "Poor-shh". Maybe that's from Tom Cruise's Risky Business days. But I never correct somebody when they mispronounce the name, because I know how that will be received; though I'm sure if I called my friend's 350Z a "Nye-san" instead of a "Nee-san" he would not hesitate for a moment to correct my pronunciation. Go figure.

Another planet????...not so sure about that... but whatever it is Christmas and explaining takes too much time anyway. Just have not seen it unless it was a reaction to one of those gold chain Porsche guys and Chow doesn't strike me as that type.
By the way what is the context of a conversation that the type of car you drive gets introduced? That is not something I ever hear in normal day-to-day life, I must live in a dull world of non-car nuts. Move time?

Gold chains? Haha, thats so 1970s.
I dont live in a world of car nuts.
Conversation. Simple things ...
You buy a new car, neigbors come over ... talk about a new car. But not with this one ... they say NADA. Get a new SUV though and they are there in a heartbeat. We got a 2006 Toyota SUV 2 weeks after the CS and they walked right over to look at it.
My wife mentions to her friend about the tire problem ... silence and then a tirade about its a lemon WTH? and then "Why do you need that?" Huh? Do you go up to people and ask them WHY do you need a ... whatever?
We go to dinner with old friend we see once/year. Went on road rallies with him years ago in our 944. He sees it and ... silence, not a question, NADA..., but he talks about his kid fixing up a 944.
