My first road trip in the CS

I was both dreading and looking forward to taking my baby on the 360 mile trek from my home to my parent's place in Southern California via highway 101. I was specifically dreading rock chips, a cracked windshield, being pulled over twice and ending up with a sore back.

I'm happy to say that most of my fears were unrealized. I did end up with a couple of chips in the windshield and a poor schmuck in front of me was the unlucky one to be pulled over. My back normally gets very sore after just two or three hours in a car and I was just fine after five hours. I love this car even more now knowing how much fun it made that drive. I actually look forward to driving back home despite the fact it means no Mom-cooked meals and going back to work.

The only disappointing thing so far is that I have yet to see another Cayman here in Westlake Village where I grew up. There are TONS of Carreras and Cayennes. This is a well-to-do neighborhood and I would expect to see at least one or two Caymans here.

Sounds like a good trip when you land with the wheels down. Ask Mom to pack you a care package and indulge in being the unique Cayman owner.

It's funny because I'm just the opposite when it comes to cars. I don't mind if I don't see any other Caymans on the road because it just makes your car that much more unique. That's totally fine with me.

My experience is similar. I had become intolerant of long drives and found I became uncomfortable after a few hours in the car. I have to say, my CS keeps me comfortable, energetic and engaged for what seems to be as many hours as I am willing to drive it. I have the sport seats and love the way they grab me, hold me down and make the car and I one with the road while keeping my body supported and comfortable.

Now, for the ride home, I think you need to get off 101 and take the Coast Highway! Winding roads are the best way to have fun in a CS, even at the speed limit so you don't even have to worry about being pulled over since you will not be speeding (unless you want to, of course).

I agree with TCinOC, the fact that there's not a lot of Cayman's in the area makes it that much more exciting. I guess if I wanted a car that everybody drives, the chances are I wouldn't want it to begin with. I've always driven cars that other people were envious of. In the process of ordering and waiting for new CS to arrive I drove "rental cars" people who knew me wondered what happen.

I'm seeing very few Caymans in Santa Barbara either, where there is no shortage of luxury cars. Maybe four or five in the last several months. More likely to see an Aston Martin or a Bentley. Mine gets a huge amount of eyeballing when driving around.

What's funny about not seeing Caymans in Westlake Village is there is a Porsche dealer in the heart of WV. I don't see them either and I drive through Westlake everyday. I also visit Santa Barbara every month and don't see them there either. But all of that is OK!
