The steering wheel felt solid, seat were form-fitting, controls and the interior was just gorgeous!
Really, I haven't sat in a Porsche before and now I know what I'm missing. Out of all the Porsches, I think the Cayman S looks the best - aside from the Carrera GT.
With the price the Cayman S is going for, can't go wrong at all. I've been looking for an "exotic" daily driver for a while and have considered the Lotus Elise/Exige, SLK55 AMG as my firsts. I think the Cayman S will be my first.
I'll arrange to test drive it in the spring time when it will perform better, avoid the nasty winter roads.
I also started out giving serious consideration to the Elise. It is a blast to drive. However, be sure you can live with the spartan nature of the car. Check out e-bay and you will see a fair number of Elises there with low mileage as a number of people have decided they wanted more comfort after driving the Lotus for a while. The depreciation seems pretty high for a car with such low import numbers. As a new CS owner I am biased of course but I understand that these cars are as much a gut decision as anything. Whatever you by I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy my Cayman.
Yes, sitting in it I know isn't saying much. I've also sat in the Corvette C6, driven by someone else. Another car I was considering at the lower price.
I sometimes cannot believe my eyes that cars here are less expensive than if I bought it in Canada. The Cayman S itself is about $20,000 more (even with the exchange rate) in Canada!
I found that the Lotus Exige was less civilized - better for the track, especially when I ingress/egress. A bit awkward at that.
Someone of average build getting out of a Lotus Exige is often one of the most comical exercises I've ever witnessed. My wife and best friend will never quit talking (laughing) about my "crawling exit" from an Exige.
My first choice was the Elise,Idrove it and loved it on the test drive. After serious consideration though the question really is can you live with it. Great Track car not so great daily driver. The CS offers everything you could want in a sports car.Good power unreal handling and enough comfort to make it very liveable. For me there is no going back!!!

When I looked at the Lotus Exige, the salesman related a tale of a guy who got into the Exige and then couldn't get out. So the salesman tried to help. No go. Another salesman joined in. Then another. In the end they had four salesman trying to get this guy out. They were getting ready to call 911 when the guy finally managed to get out.
Give the Elise a break, guys. Two very different cars. It's not fair to make an apples-to-apples comparison. The Elise sets your hair on fire but I certainly wouldn't make the 3500 mile drive in it that my wife and I just took to exercise the Cayman S. The Lotus can read the date on a quarter if you run over it....The Cayman doesn't even know it's there. The CS has every amenity known and a trip/chrono computer to die for....The only amenity in the Lotus is a single windshield wiper (can't operate the radio so it doesn't count). The Lotus corners on railroad tracks and you lean it like motorcycle....you actually steer the CS! Give me twenty miles of twisty roads and I'll choose the Lotus. Anything else and I'll choose the CS. There's actually a thread on the Elise Talk site that discusses how far you've gone on a trip....you can drive the CS forever. Drivbe a Lotus; you'll come back to the CS but you'll never forget the Lotus!
As to getting in and out of it: the engineers refered to it as a "step-in".
