After a year of endless research, test drives, driving salesmen nuts, MORE test drives; mind wrenching debates with myself over buying a 996 TT (2001) a 996 Anniversary Coupe, and a 996 C4S; a visit to the Tokyo Motor show for the Asian Cayman S unveiling; debating over colors, options and prices, and financing schemes; internet searches, ebay auction watching, and visiting dealers in MD,VA, PA, NJ, NY, DE and Utah (on a business trip) and driving my wife nuts, I purchased my 5th P-car, a Black on black std leather 06 Cayman S, in NYC.
Why, if I live in MD, would I buy in NYC? Brand new, priced below "invoice". Great service with my long distance purchase, great responsiveness.
If anyone is interested drop me an email for more details. I would recommend these guys and my salesman.
Option list:
Sport Shifter
Bi-xenons
wheel caps (yeah)
Self dim mirrors
Bose surround sound
Sport steering wheel
Heated seats (a must for my bride)
I pick it up Saturday!
Paul

That is a dynamic combo, very stealth! I have always wanted B on B, but afraid to go for it in Hawaii. I can imagine you have plans for the long weekend.
I know that car; from Manhattan Motorcars, right?
I almost bought that car last month but opted for Cobalt Blue with the same options. I had a positive buying experience from MM, how about you? Good luck with the car, it has all the right options, not too many, just enough.
Yes, one day is a long enough wait! I bought the car at Manhattan Motorcars, again, so far very professional.
Thanks to all here for the great information and kind replys to my post.
It is truly a unique dealer, in that all the cars are parked inside in a warehouse type building. Getting them out must be unbelievable!
I've got a silver Boxster and it always looks clean, plus a black SLK 230 (which I have to wash all the time). My other 3 Porsches were Guards Red, which is another whole story.
I went through a whole thing about PASM, Sport Chrono, etc. I have been to the track just once for a high performance driving clinic, and at the level where these options would do me any good is so far above the normal street driving, I decided to forego them. If I found the right car, maybe. But the sport shifter is probably going to do more for me in normal day to day driving.
There's no secret with a black car. The killer is swirl marks. I wash carefully and NEVER rub in a circular pattern. I use the Mr. Clean wash/drip dry, followed with Meguire's or Griot's detail spray, with wipes along the length of the car.
Good wax is the other need. I tend to use the waxes that don't leave white streaks.
I've convinced my wife to sell her SLK to her sister, and take over the Boxster....
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Sport Chrono and Chrono Plus
This optional package is a valuable addition for trackday use. Available in conjunction with the CDR-24 CD radio, it includes a swivel-mounted analog and digital timer unit which is centrally located on the dashboard. All functions are easily accessible via the control stalk for the on-board computer. Analog dials measure hours, minutes and seconds, while a separate digital field displays whole seconds, tenths and one hundredths of a second. A second digital display runs in parallel in the instrument cluster. Click this Link to visit the FAQ entry for Sport Chrono.
