Almost surely. It's funny. I moved to Houston a couple of years ago, and every now and then I hear someone mention a remote starter with an air of wonder.
However, before I moved down, I lived in Canada. They're EVERYWHERE up there. Hell, people get them installed on their beaters. Who wants to get into a cold car when you can get into a warm one...
Anyway... they're pretty readily installed in a wide variety of vehicles, I don't know why it would be much different on the Cayman.
It will be easier on a tip, since people are often reluctant to install on a manual, due to liability. The clutch switch will have to bypassed so it can be started with no foot on the clutch --- and therein lies the liablity question. I also predict this will be a bigger problem in the US, since people are 10 times as lawsuit crazy down here than they are in Canada.
I couldn't do it, I typically park my car while it's still in gear. While I could kick the habbit and start parking in neutral; I wouldn't want to live with the fear that I might leave it in gear one day and as the car started it would lurch forward or backwards and hit something. My friend wants to do it in his manual car with clutch starter interlock bypass; but for me... nope.
Take a look at the award winning company Firstech LLC's superior remote car start systems at http://www.compustar.org/.
They have a novel way of safely incorporating a remote starter into manual transmission cars. It requires leaving your car in "reservation mode" when you exit the vehicle. This is easily achieved by following these simple steps: 1) drive your car into any parking spot 2) put the car in neutral 3) take your foot off of the brake pedal 4) engage the emergency brake, this is how the computer can establish that the car is safely idling in neutral (at this point don't bump the brake pedal or the system will cancel out and you'll have to repeat steps two through four) 5) exit the car with the engine still running and close the door or doors, within a few seconds the car will automatically turn off and lock the doors and arm the factory alarm system. 6) When you are ready to start the car, simply push the button on the remote.
Their remotes offer other functionality as well and some of their various models will operate at distances of up to 6000 feet. I've been using these in a few of my cars over the last few years, they've been trouble free and I won't go without one (I will install one on my CS when it arrives this July!).
Regards,
Joe

NNNNOOOOO!!!! The key is on the left just like they intended it to be started. Don't give up on the heritage - can you imagine LeMans if all the guys got in their cars and remote started them as they ran across the track! As Swancoat says, they're all over Canada - along with pickups, cell phoners, tailgaters......people come into my office in the winter because it overlooks the parking lot and point their remotes out to their portable living room to start it - this is almost sacriligeous! Don't go to the dark side JackWood!! Use the key, Luke, use the key!
One of the many additional features is a turbo timer for our turbo friends! I also believe remote start is good for your engine as it allows it to build a little temperature before you drive off.
Compustar, older Clifford and Crime Stopper brands are all capable of what I call 'Hokey Pokey' remote start on manuals. You know, 'put your left foot out, put your right arm up, exit the vehicle and shake the remote all about.....'. But personally, this is in my mind a major inconvenience and limits you to the brands you can use.
Most advanced cars today have a neutral safety switch in their transmission. If the Cayman does, and I don't know if this is the case, then any remote start can be installed safely by attaching one of the safety wires to the NSS so remote start will not function if the car is left in gear.
Anyone have a wiring diagram? I'd be happy to look it over and tell you if I find one.
If the Manual Shift Caymans don't have an NSS, a skilled technician could build one pretty easily by attaching a magnet and magnetic reed switch to the forward/aft shifter linkage in the center console. In this setup, the magnet and reed switch would only be lined up while in neutral, providing the needed ground.
Beyond that challenge, to install a remote start, the technician will also need to duplicate or should I say emulate the RFID chip in the key. The Porsches have a pickup near the key cylinder that can tell if the correct key is present or not. If it's not, it doesn't allow the engine to continue running. There are bypass interface devices that help achieve this.
Over all, there isn't an electric mod you can do to a car that is more electrically invasive than a remote start. I would never recommend anyone try to do this themselves. You need to pick the most skilled technician or shop you can find.

Well... not all of us in Canada (or even in Oilberta) have or need remote starters. What a bunch of molly-coddlin' lazy arses... warm the car up for 20 minutes, drive it for 10 minutes to get to work?
But I didn't say no to a good seat heater!
