Hey guys, I'm a first-time P-car owner, formerly a strictly MB owner. For Benz, I'm sure some of you are aware, the dealership service shops use a program called WIS. (Workshop Info. Sys.) Basically it has everything you need to know to repair anything on the car. Anyways.....sometimes, I like to pretend I'm a mechanic and fix/service things on my car myself. I was wondering if there was any kind of program like WIS for P-cars? If so....what is it called? And do you know what is the most current version? Many thanks and sorry for the ramble!

There is a Porsche parts catalog on CD (called "P.E.T.") that you can buy fairly cheaply. I bought mine from Suncoast (a sponsor here) for ~$14 plus shipping.
Porsche also sells workshop manual sections on CD -- list price is $130 per section. Total cost would be well over $3k. If you want to go the official Porsche route, your salesman might be able to get you a discount, but it'll still probably be ridiculously expensive. Apparently, you can no longer get a hard-copy workshop manual from Porsche.
An "unofficial" route for getting the complete set of workshop manuals is a guy on renntech.org named "Porschelibrarian", who has put all the workshop manual sections into one giant PDF (over 5500 pages) and sells it on CD for $100 (also includes wiring diagrams and TSBs). He can be a little slow with mailing out the CDs, but it's worth the wait (unless you want to pay list prices).
Suncoast Motorsports
Suncoast Motorsports is your one stop shop for Cayman parts, please mention the CaymanClub.Net website to get your member discount!
Porsche also has a set of CDs similar to WIS called POSES which covers the workshop manuals, TSBs, Repair codes, and Porsche Factory Labor Times. It is a 10 CD set plus one would the POSES Program and program update. There is also a dealer version PET that is a database program that the dealers actually use instead of the PDF ****. The PDF is better than nothing but doesn't compare to the dealer version. The dealer version has every year and model rather than only a selected number of years, and you can search by VIN, part number , part name, check parts across all models, get updated and superseeded part numbers and more features that the PDF PET doesn't allow.
POSES and PET ( dealer version ) plus the wiring diagrams that I have make a complete workshop reference guide.

Cayman S - a portable amusement park
I'm mostly interested in the electrical schematics, with location of the major components/blocks. What would be the best route for this info?
I think your best route is to send porschelibrarian a PM or email, and ask him if he'd sell you just the wiring diagrams. Although, in the long run, I think it's worth it to just get the whole set.

Indeed. Get the whole set. I did just what you suggested - sent porschelibrarian a PM, sent him a payment by PayPal, and a couple of days later two CDs arrive via priority mail. Terrific package: a giant pdf file of the workshop manual (it's most of a CD!) and the whole Porsche parts software which installs right on your computer and has exploded diagrams of everything. He has manuals for every Porsche out there, so definitely the go-to guy.
This stuff is invaluable. Take a look at the articles here on things like center console replacement, trim removal, etc. While they're good the factory manual is even better, with every step, which way to yank, etc. spelled out. Not to mention torque values and everything else under the sun.
Thank you for your review. If you or other members here need assistance please let me know. As of now I don't think there is any 2007 specific service information out yet. If anyone hears, or knows of any please let me know as I am always trying to expand, update, and improve my collection so I can help other owners ( sorry guys but while you have shiny new Caymans I have an old 964 Targa...)
I previously bought the 2 CD set from you which is very good. Is the dealer version the 10 CD set something else perhaps with more detailed schematics than the 2 CD set, and how much is it?

I just ordered the 2 CD set from porschelibrarian . It'll make for some great bedtime reading.
