i got out of my car today, and realized that my mud flap right in front of my driver side rear wheel has a crack????? and chip off a chunk of the hard plastic....???? i was trying to think hard, but i cant seem to recall anything that hit my car, everything else is fine and no damage.... i wonder what happened...????
anyone know how much or where i can get a new piece?
ummm sorry to hear that. i know a guy in the valley (van nuys) who is great with porsches. he used to work for them but now he runs his own body shop. i can show you pictures of my car before and after shortly.
i also think im goiing to take your advice and paint the whole rim white
what could have done that.... 1st thing that comes to mind is that you ran ver something on the freeway that your will spit back at your gard. it would have made a loud noise. 2ned thing! you hit a speed bump/pot hole/ uneven ground. going to fast
other then that i have no clue
If my car were here now, instead of coming in May, you could have my aero strakes. I think they look dumb; color doesn't match the car, and the angular shape is out of harmony with rounded lines of the rest of the car. I'm having the dealer remove mine before I pick up the car; since I don't plan on going outrageously fast, I don't think I'll need extra aerodynamic assistance.
If you want to replace your strakes, Suncoast or Brandywine or Sunset or your dealer can probably accommodate you.

for thenewguy Mud flaps are located behind wheels, and the devices you refer to are for aerodynamic purposes. They are hard plastic, do not yield upon impact, and can be broken by almost any sort of road debris. Separated tire treads, mostly from recaps on trucks, are often the culprits but any old piece of **** will do. They are easily replaced, and can be ordered from your dealer for about $25. I have also repaired mine (several times), using epoxy glues, and fill gouges or cracks with black seam sealer, available ay any marine supply house. My road junk seems to favor the passenger's side. Maybe I'm unlucky, or just careless, but don't you despair-it ain't no biggie.

Hi, thenewguy. Sorry about the ding. My CS's same one was damaged when it got a flat recently. I'm taking it in to be replaced tomorrow. I want the complete aeros; I figure it's part of the whole package I paid for.
Good Luck.

sounds good... i am sure is a minor issues, but just painful to see the car like that, plus the fact that i have to make a visit to the dealership... thanks for all the advise.
NP. And I completely hear you. I am a detail freak and I understand.
Between my previous Boxster and the current CS, I have spent literally many weeks dealing with small, but insidious quality problems from the factory or injuries from the road.
The dealership is a 40 minute drive away, but I have a good relationship with them now and they treat me well. When my CS got the flat I mentioned, I ended up in nice loaner cars for a week; way beyond what Porsche Roadside provides and no other dealership would have done it for me.
Hang in there and think of how lovely it will be to drive your Cayman when it's whole again!

i just put the kids to sleep, and i am planning on going to the garage to take a look. perhaps removing it would be a good idea. this is my first porsche, i've been a mercedes person most of my life, and never really cared what happend to the benz. but with the porsche, i feel a deep connection with.. i guess the CS is a way to connect with my inner child personality.. haha.
i know this is an old thread, but i just noticed that one of my strakes is cracked; for anyone who has replaced this, is it pretty difficult to do yourself? i don't really have any experience working on cars, but i'd like to do it myself. if you had the dealership replace it, how much was labor? thanks!

From What I recall after I hit a lump of wood on the road there were just 3 screws/bolts to fix the Strakes......... Did it myself Extremely quick and easy -
Don't Worry....
