Reason: a little help with links...
Sorry to hear that man. I would be bummed too. Personally, I would compare the increase in insurance to the $3500. If I only had to pay an extra $100 a month for 12 months with a $500 deductible, that would only cost you $1700 not taking into account FVM. I would much rather pay $1700 than $3500.
I would suggest you be more careful about where you park. I drive my car daily and I am extremely careful about where I park. Of course, I would have given anything to drive a Porsche when I was 17 crunched door or not . Good luck.
the truth is your right, but i just dont get how this can happen. i take such good care of my car. i park my car all the way at the end of the lot next to no one so nothing can happen to it. i mean i dont know any one who washes their car like i do. every other day i take out 1hr 30 min to two just to wash it. and then this happens. i just wish i had better luck. i try and tell my self its a piece of metal but its more then that to me, but its just one of thoes things that happen
I Know the feeling, Yesterday the guy who owns the Gym, below me. Reversed his BMW X5 straight into the rear three-quarter of my car. Suppose he came up and told me, but it doesn’t alter the fact that in 13 months I’ve not put a mark on it, and added to this fact that when I looked ‘How it had happened’ on the camera he didn’t even stop. It was only about an hour later that he came to tell me, knowing that I could trace it back on the hard disc. He’s offered to pay etc, but it not the point still feel Pi**ed Off.
I got hit yesterday too, but unlike you, I was driving my beater, a 2000 Passat.
I pulled into a parking spot at a local Dunkin Donuts. Before I could even get out of my car, I felt a nudge. The driver next to me, while backing out of her spot, turned her steering wheel full right. That caused her nose to swing too far my way and she left a 2 foot by 6 inch crease in my right front door with her front bumper.
The reason I'm sharing this with you is because there is a similarity. The young woman that hit me was 18 years old. She didn't mean to wreck my door, she just didn't have the driving experience to know that you should keep an eye on the front of your car while backing and turning. I did the same exact thing when I was 18, only the damage was limited to my car as my nose caught the corner of a big steel bumper on a pickup truck. Crunched the corner of my nose and left a little paint on his bumper.
Anyway, my point is, younger drivers just don't have that much experience. Therefore, there is a much higher likelihood that they will make mistakes. Taking that car to a school, full of 16-19 year old drivers, is almost asking for trouble.
What happens to you sucks. I would be pretty bummed. But if I were you I would call the police, start a report, and call the insurance company. Your rates should not be affected, but they may be.
I've commented several times on my incident with a woman pulling up and parking on top of my front bumper and leaving her car there like nothing happened.
The fact of the matter is that we get pissed because our cars are something special to us. That's why we drive them everywhere, even when we know there might be some risk to them.
Other people, who aren't car people, just don't get that. If someone tells you to lighten up because "it's just a car" is one of those people.
By the way, if someone hits your car and tells you that, I suggest smashing their windshield with a brick and telling them "lighten up - it's just a windshield."
I'm sorry for your incredibly bad luck. I agree with Gator Bite, though. Leaving an expensive car in a parking lot used by many inexperienced drivers who wouldn't want to tell their parents that they've had an accident is a recipe for disaster. If you really want to enjoy your car, drive it after school in more controlled conditions. Honesty is unfortunately sometimes in short supply where young drivers are concerned. At least if something happens to your car while you're in it, you will know who was to blame (either yourself or a careless driver who won't get away undetected). I wish you better luck in the future. 987f

If your dad can afford to give you Cayman, he can afford to buy you a beater to take it to school.
There is no reason you should be risking such a fine car in a school parking lot. There are plenty of other places you can show off with your fine automobile without risking it. You never know, this might be your first car in you collection, take care of it. I have a buddy who drove his mustang since he got his drivers license. He still owns the car and he is 35.
If I were you, I also would ask your father's attorney to request video tapes from school for that location. Security told you that cameras do not work, because you are a kid who drives Porsche, there is no reason for them to give you any respect. Security guys are way underpaid and you are driving a car they will never have. Add two and two together and you have your answer.
You are only 17, live and learn, hopefully you will gain wisdom that will allow you to have a good gut feeling about these things.

I don't see where you explicitly say this but if you did - wow. Neither of my sons ever parked their cars actually IN the school lot - they're combat zones. They parked a couple of blocks away and walked the rest. This is good practice in general. I actually park about a mile (up a steep hill) from my workplace just to avoid a densely packed parking structure and this one is used by adults, not kids. If you did park a Porsche in a school lot I'm kind of amazed at your temerity.
