Top Gear trashes the Cayman S

This may be old hat, apologies if so.....UK's Top Gear trashed the car

Fifth Gear (and British touring car racer Tiffney) is a little more Philosophical (I guess the road, is UK’s “Deals Gap”

Yeah, but look at the track times.

http://www.topgear.com/content/tgonb...times/thestig/

Clarkson is a Ferrari bigot. His reviews are entertaining and he offers insight that is appreciated, but he trashes a lot of great cars.

I would say his opinion has little weight compared to the avalanche of fantastic reviews from Motojournalists.

Just rememeber they try to have fun and balance stories. The fact that the producer ordered a Cayman S is a great testimonial. Clarkson knowing this has gone out of his way to trash it, so e end up with a balanced review I think.

I'd not seen the fifth gear one. Thanks.

I do agree with Dave, clarkson's reviews are always entertaining, but not always accurate.

‘twas all very tongue in cheek anyway, as he only loves Jags and BM’s. But he is funny for a ageing, lanky old brit

Top Gear is my favorite car show...ever. The fact that it is no longer on TV in the US is shame.

And even though Clarkson seemed to trash our cars, his only real major bitch was that it was not allowed to beat the 911, and he did not like the styling. Oh well...to each his own.

I have to wonder though about the fact the biggest woody he got was over the SatNav.

It's important to realize that he wants to entertain first, inform second. The point that he keeps making about the CS sloting between the 997 and Boxster is not as profound as he seems to think, since Porsche freely admits that's the case. I do have to admit that I had to chuckle at his renaming the CS to the Coxster.

One of the things that really bugs me about his comments is the one about the ease of mistaking Reverse and 1st gear. That's a load of ****. I've never come close to making that mistake.

He clearly isn't a big fan of Porsche and he really focuses on the cost of options.

He's also bitter that James May owns a Boxster S and Hamster owns a 997S and all he's got is his GT40 which is always back at Ford, oh and his girly SLK 55

maybe Porsche don'r really have a great PR department. Thats what i learned today in class. lol
Better PR department = gives media a good reputation about the company/product that they are going to launch.
btw, thats just my understanding, correct me if i'm worng.

StatiX, you are correct it is about PR and if you go back and look at the launch of the Cayman you would think that it was the finest machine ever developed. Every magazine of any note had a story saying so! It came close to being over the top even for such a great car.

I remember this, and Clarkson was comical to say the lest. But not matter what he said, you can't tell me that he was not having fun with that Cayman!

Thing is Clarkson is prepared to give it **** and can get away with it, so he does. Ratings is all that matters. Chillout.

I must be an idiot as well as for a split second, I mixed them up just an hour ago.

Admittedly, I haven't driven the CS in over two weeks and have been driving two other MT cars since - all with R somewhere else. It's not that intuitive but it's certainly a nothing if you drive it enough and get used to it.
