Does this describe standard leather in the Cayman?
K-Man,
The US standard leather is supposed to have 2 sport front seats with leater upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel, leather trim on shift knob, leather trim on doors and center console? At least that is what I read from Edmunds.
Standard leather doesn't have 'sport' seats, it has regular seats and I think those seats are leather, the steering wheel is wrapped in leahter, there is leather on the shift knob, I don't think the center console has any leather on it as the top bin cover is a soft plastic by default and the doors have a small amount of leather I think for the air bag area, but not the top portion of the door like full leather has.
The order guide should have a picture in it that shows which parts are covered in what material.
If there was one thing I would change it would be to have added full leather. Still it looks pretty nice with just the standard interior, but the full leather is so rich looking. I would add leather if I thought it was possible without tearing th interior apart to do so, maybe just the visors.
From what I understand, and I went pretty deep with the dealer about this, standard leather is what Porsche calls 'partial leather' with is leather seating surfaces, leather wrapped steering wheel, and leather shift knob. The dash, doors, seat back and sides, etc. are a krinkely or stippled (for lack of a better description) leather-looking vinyl. The console is plastic. The full leather option @ $2095 gets you leather console, dashboard, seats front and back, and doors.
Then you can add more leather from there... the unstrument binacle, A/C slats, door finishers (the little triangle on each side where the sideview mirror is located), etc.
Sport seats, even with the ful leather option are extra... $750 when you have partial leather, and $400 when you have full leather option... then there's the adaptive sports seats which are over $3k.

The leather console is not included in the full leather but is a stand alone option (XMZ for an additional $1,260). I think the leather seat backs are also additional.
Well it seems the sky's the limit when it comes to leather. I have noticed by looking at some of the dealers inventories that most of the cars that were not special ordered have standard leather, even the Porsche owned models seem to have only the standar leather. So I guess what I am saying is, it can't be that bad.
Sorry, I didn't mean the whole console, which indeed is another high-priced option... my salesman, who's actually the sales manager in my case, said the full leather included the console bin lid comes in leather... I hope he's right... you can then further get the model insignia embossed (actually debossed, but that's really picky) on the lid for rven MORE $$$. For the standard seats, I believe you are right... I ordered the sport seats which have some sort of hard back on them.

all leather seats, doors, upper and lower dash including gauge cover, center column sides. I don't think it includes the rear center column lid......but would be happy if it did.
For those of us that didn't get Full Leather, do not dispair the standard looks great. I went to look at the dealers Cayman again tonight and the interior is really beautiful, not to say it wouldn't be even better with full leather, but the standard is very nice, and the entire seat with the exception of a small piece in the back is all leather!

I agree. I thought the 996 and 986 needed full leather. The interiors in the 997 and 987 are much nicer and the standard interiorno longer looks out of place in a $60,000+ car.
