Does anyone know if the standard car comes with some kind of nameplate on the door sill? All the car's I've seen so far have it, but I always thought they just had the $400 aluminum door sill option. My dad's MY 2000 boxster doesn't have anything on the doorsill...
Standard is a plastic one with cayman s on it.If you pay the extra I think it is stainless steel. It is nicer but you takes your choice and pays or not.
My dealer's suggestion was go with what comes with it, and if it does not hold up or if you don't like it, it's easy to replace it with the stainless option later on.
My turbo has the brushed stainless steel sill covers with the model designation on it, and Santa Fe is correct, they do get scratched a little... they provide a small pad that looks like more loosely woven scotchbrite, and it takes the scratches out quite nicely.
I decided to stay with the stock ones on the Caymen and I'll get the stainless later if I need to... they're a VERY easy retrofit.
I too got the lighted ss ones after seeing them on a turbo, just had a look that I liked alot. I would rather the sills get scratched than the paint without em, 'specially by the wifey's shoes, her car is the worst as the boys and I usually get feet over the sills before setting em down.
The lighted ss sounds really nice, I didn't even know about that option till now. There were just too many options and at that time no one could tell me anything about them. I think by time I get my next Cayman I will know exactly what to get. I just keep finding more things to add. I guess it is a good thing I can't change it otherwise I would be up north of 75K.
Russ, FYI: There is one other way that you might be able to go. I have seen people use the clear cover material ( 3M Clear Bra type) on the door sills. That would keep the sills protected and still be able to see the color.
That might be a good idea Chuck. I sure seem to be finding a lot of things to do once I get my car. It will be fun, and I cannot wait. The thought that my car will be in San Diego next week is hard to believe.
Russ
the door sills (which could not be ordered when I ordered) are easy enough to add. In fact some people will get two sets. One for show and one for go..
When I went down to look at the Cayman, I did not even notice the sill emblems. Of course I didn't know that they were plastic at that time either. They must look like metal or I would have noticed (I think). Everytime i am near that car I get dingy like I am on a first date.
