This is one totally beautiful car. In all respects. Driving it is a blast. My wife thinks it's too loud and I agree with her. But why have a Porsche if not for the sound of the engine?
Since I've taken possession (or should I say it's taken possession of me), I've done the following:
1) Das Schild
2) Porsche Sports Exhaust Tips (polished by Ralph!)
3) Umbrella
4) Washed 3 times, claybar and Zanio'd once
5) Got the window tinted
6) made up excuses to drive (Oh, honey, did you want that book from the library? I'll go get it, since you look tired!)
As you can tell, I'm besotted
One thing I did notice in my cleaning chores: the rear air intakes are black on the Midnight Blue cars. Not a big deal, but I figured it would be midnight blue.

PSE - Porsche Sports Exhaust System
The acoustics of this dual-mode sports exhaust system are dependent on driving style, ranging from standard output during normal road driving to a more aggressive tone during performance use. Modes are selected using a button on the center console (or ‘Sport’ mode button on vehicles with optional Sport Chrono Package/Sport Chrono Package Plus).
Introduction planned for 04/2007. Some models may require additional components. For detailed information about this product, please contact your Porsche dealer.

Joe,
Maybe it is combination of getting used to the sound and maintaining steady RPM. At around 70 MPH, the sound synchronizes with the car and it becomes less evident. Your speed should be different because of the Automatic transmission. One thing is certain, the engine will sound stronger as the miles pile up. I can relate to your running to the book store/library. Since I bought my CS I have not minded going to the bakery early Saturday and Sunday mornings for fresh bread.
