Cayman vs 2002 twin turbo

Question----If you could get a 2002 turbo for the same price as a well set up Cayman what would you do?
I have only driven MBZ's for the last 15 years. For the last year and half I have been renting bmw's and porsches for autocross and track days. I have worked my way up the ranks and have a few trophies.
I've had my mind set on the Cayman (supposed to pick up tomorrow) when a friend mentioned the availablily of the turbo(very well set up and maintained)
I will use the car as a daily but have a back up.
Any wisdom to share?

SBD,

I have an intertesting answer for you - I'm getting a Cayman to probably (haven't decided yet if I'm going to sell the turbo) replace a 2002 turbo. The turbo is worth in trade just about what I'm going to pay for the Cayman, although on the open larket is it worth quite a bit more. I very much like to autocross, and the turbo, believe it or not, has just too much power to perform well in that small of a venue - turbos need room to run. On the track, on the other hand, the turbo is king. Although I didn't have it as a daily driver, I occasionally do drive it around town, and the turbo is very tractable in everyday traffic and a lot of fun to drive. You just need to watch out for high-incline driveways... the air dam is very low to the ground. If what you want is awesome power and brakes, the turbo's got that.

SBD -

Interesting question. I think the answer lies in what you really want. I thought about your question last week before I ordered my Cayman, as my dealer had a 2002 or thereabouts turbo on the showroom floor for90 something thousand.

I really appreciate everything about the Cayman, what it is, where it came from, and what I think I am going to do with it. After the beating I took for the options, I think with tax the Cayman will be in the same league as the Turbo at my dealer.

I don't really care about it costing more than a base 911, or an S if it is near that price. I like the Cayman and will get it exactly the way I want it. I don't care about resale, lease rates, bla bla bla. I think the Crock Rocks and I think it will become one of the best Porsches ever.

Cheers

Brad,
Sorry, you can't answer a question with me know having to ask myself more questions.
I do appreciate your thoughts, I prefer the driving technics and intensity of the autocross. The Cayman will be awsome for porsche autox and daily, but I am also considering scca events and it will have its work cut out for it to be competitive in scca autox against the new Vettes in Super Stock.

FYI a gt2 won this years very competive scca nationals autox ASP class. So I think the turbo would be competitive too.
Corvettes usually take the win.

For the track days i really get a bit bored and would need to progress to car on car racing and for that I am concidering nasa events with a 944 spec not real fast but great handling and no worries about $$ damage.
I guess it is a tough one,
thanks again

SBD,

I would suggest that neither Cayman nor 996tt is the ultimate track car. On track, my preference of the two is definitely the Cayman, but only because it is more fun. One day when I can drive properly I'll buy a GT3...
