According to all magazines and autoshows, Cayman/Boxster S are slightly slower than a base 911/911 cabrio.
But I get the idea that in real life, Cayman S may be on par or even faster than a base 911.
What are your experiences?
I find it hard to believe that all automotive media lie in order to serve Porsche marketing purposes.
I find it harder that Porsche actually built Cayman S faster than the base 911, hurting it's icon car model.
I ahve had several people tell me that my car is much faster than they thought it would be....one was a 930 owner who waved me by at the track, another was an Aston V8 vantage owner....same thing (actually he asked me if I had installed a turbo!) and a Ford GT driver who thought that he would walk away much faster than he did (he still killed me though...).
Dunno if I have a fast one or if the desnork and cat back made a big difference but it seems to boogey!

According to Car and Driver, Road Test Digest, June 2007, the Cayman S is faster than Carrera 2 (not S), both tested 8/06.
0-60//1/4mile: 4.8/13.3 vs 5.2/13.8
I drove both. could have had either. It seemed to me that the 911 standard had a little more low end grunt- say to 45 mph. From 45 on the CS seemed to be equal in acceleration or slightly better. The Cs zips in and out of traffic and carries speed around curves at insane levels that I have never seen before in a stock sports car. The CS smokes pretty much anything in the slalom or the g force tests in the magazines except for the occasional Gt3(cup tires) or Lotus depending on who you believe. I felt that from point A to point B- the CS was considerably faster than the standard 911. The S with 355 hp or whatever it has coupled with 11" rear shoes may be another story. Have not driven one-cant say. There is no doubt whatsoever that the average guy with limited track expierence can drive the CS faster and easier than just about anything out there within financial reason. Except maybe a Lotus. According to several publications, the original Cs test cars were detuned- de-geared and slowed down as not upstage the 997. Acccording to one report the original mules would run very close to the 911 S. This car is crying for 400 hp. bring it on!!!!!!!
I was having some fun one day with a 911 Carrera S Cabrio and I had no problem staying ahead of him on an uphill run and around a twisty mountain road. He couldn't gain on me or pass me at all. I think it was kind of pissing him off. Oh well...

on track,
cay s is for sure faster than 997 non s, no way around it.
cay s is also faster then exige non s, unless the track is very very tight.
i drove all three, with at least 2000 track miles on each chassis and at least 15k total miles on each, so i SHOULD be familiar with the peculiarities of each and the driver (me) is not a variable... so.
You can also drive a CS faster, right out of the box, because the car privides tons of understandable driver feedback. You always know where you are (relative to the limits) with the CS. The 911, on the other hand, requires certain skills that must be learned in order to drive it near its limits - the feedback is unfamiliar to most drivers and not as apparent as with the CS.
The 997S is faster, much faster, but only the driver can produce that result and (WADR) most 911 drivers you see on the road don't have the skills to push the car anywhere close to its limits.

I had a Pontiac GTO ask me if the car was boosted

I am amazed by just how much excessive speed that it takes to get the CS out of shape and how easy it is to gather it back into control. This car is definitely a problem for the future of the 911 platform. they made the CS just too damn good.

actually 997s x51 is much faster.
a normal 3.8L 997S is not much faster than cayman s.
