How does the Cayman S do agaisnt Evo/STi on the track?

Two general questions:

How does the stock Cayman S do agaisnt stock Evo/STi on the track?

How does the stock Cayman S do agaisnt modded Evo/STi *with aftermarket coilovers* on the track?

Best source - but can't necessarily answer your questions on mods. Generally speaking on tracks the EVO is slower. Nurburgring is a notable exception.

I think any differences would depend mostly on the driver and to a lesser extent the type of track. Road and Track did a comparison between a stock EVO and Cayman and the cars had similar lap times. Here's a link if you want to check it out:

There are a lot of less expensive cars that can give a Cayman or any expensive German performance car a run for its money. As you spend more you get less in the way of quantifiable performance and more in the department of subtle handling. I've never driven an EVO but I've driven several STIs, stock and modded. What they immediately lack is the sense of road feedback or driver involvement that the Cayman S offers. Steering is vague, gearbox is not a fraction as responsive, clutch is not a pleasure to use, etc, etc...

You do get what you pay for.

It is interesting to note that the AWD car matched the RWD car. Considering many RWD fans like to say AWD is a loser on the track (dry) because of loss of power, and conversely odd since many AWD fans say its an advantage coming out of the corners..

Probably comes down to the driver and the track, and of course any mods. I had an EVO driver, who I know personally, bragging to me how fast his EVO was at HPT this past June, how he'd shaved seconds off his previous car's fastest times, etc. Then I went out head to head with him and bested his EVO by several seconds. Neither of us were stock though so I don't really know what that says other than he came off track wanting to trade his EVO for a Cayman.

An Evo is NOTHING like you described the STI. totally different beasts. STI is a fat, slow steering pig compared to an EVO (but faster in a straight line!). An Evo is much more on par with what you like about the Cayman... like a giant 4 door lotus elise. With crappy cheap interior and ricer looks... but still a great handling car.

If the track is wet the 4WD has the advantage.
