Okay, I own a 07 335, a 07 Cayman S and a 07 Boxster S "Tip". The 335 will own the Cayman in a roll on. The 335 drops a few gears quick when you nail it and it's on boost instantly. I can't imagine getting my Cayman to wake up that quick. In a drag race it would be close if you really hammered the Cayman through the gears. My poor Boxster S would get the crud kicked out of it by both cars.
I used to think the same thing. My buddy has a 335 and I have driven it. It feels quick with the torque from the turbos. It felt much faster than my car.
We went to the drag strip and I took him both times we raced. Both of us were shocked. He dynoed +30hp than me on the same dyno, same day. (he has some type of chip)
His 60' time was a little better than mine (1.9 vs 2.0)
I drove a vishnu 335 with procede and the accelaration is amazing. It was faster than my EVO 8 with Vishnu V390 package (only from the roll). I took the 335 on a 90 degree arc corner and I was dissapointed. I took my cayman on the same 90 degree arc corner and my passenger said I was doing 55mph. We can only do 48 on the same corner with the 335. They both have stock suspension.

That video is so lame.....I can clearly see where the Cayman lets up just before the 335 does his fly-by. You can't even tell if it's a CS or a C.
I do agree the 335 has great mid-range (I have driven one), and can see it putting a half a length on a CS for a moment, but if the CS is in the right gear or gets it quickly, that lead will disolve quickly. Turbos give the impression of power, but the true results are often different.

That was sort of my point. In a drag race, you could hammer the Cayman and keep the rpms pinned where they need to stay to hang with the 335. In a roll on, I'm positive that I can't get the Cayman S to the point where it likes to run as quick as the 335 wakes up and I use to race and own a funny car. I still like my Cayman more than the 335 but I would pick my race very carefully against one. In fact, I got challenged by a 335 in my Mustang GT a few weeks ago and I couldn't get my **** together quick enough to run the 335 down. Granted, I didn't know he was going to race me but my Mustang has 4:10's, stick shift and has run high 12's with slicks. I bogged the Mustang because I shifted to second before I realized he was racing but the 335 was taking off like a rocket. Don't try a roll on against a 335.

The Cayman did back off, that was obvious, but it was only after he threw in the towel. That 335 had the speedo pinned. My wife in her 335 pulls away from me and we have tried the little experiment twice on the way to the gym. I would have to punish the living **** out of the Cayman to hang with or beat the 335. The 335 goes fast very easy and the Cayman takes work.
One day I happened to be going by a Porsche dealer and stopped just for the heck of it. I didn't even know about the Cayman at that point, but after a test drive I didn't want anything else. I found the CS to be priced a bit higher than the 335i, but the 2.7L Cayman was comparable. I am now awaiting the arrival of my 2008 2.7L Cayman.
I was at the Audi dealer picking up some oil filters for my A4 when I wandered over to the Porsche dealer to drool over a CS. A salesman came out and asked me if I wanted to take one for a drive. I hesitated, but took him up on it.
After one mile I was in serious trouble and figuring out how to re-arrange my finances. I'm hoping to see my CS in January.
Moral of the story? DO NOT drive this car unless you really want to!

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I have never had a problem against any 335 yet.....but only gone up against 2, they are still kinda rare around here, mostly lesser 3s seen.
BTW.....lets see a picture of the CS, Boxster S, 335 and Mustang GT side by side......I would love to see the stable.

Chops, seriously mate, you should change the name of this clip to "Cayman S beats 335i" it will appear in more web searches !!! People need to see this clip! I saw the previous one posted by Moneyman and there is no way the Cayman was in it for a race.
Im not here to slate the 335i, i really liked it and nearly bought one. They are two different cars though and should not be compared.

I just don't get it. How can any one seriously compare a 2 seater sports car to a sedan weighing 600 lbs more? Who cares about drag racing? If you don't know the importance of low weight, take your car to the track. My M3 with 3175 lbs is a pig on the track. How come no one else seems to get the weight issue? If we don't stop buying big heavy cars, car manufacturers will never get the message: Low weight, better performance, more economical, more fun. I love BMW's but I bought a Cayman because I refused to pay money for a Z4 MCoupe weighing almost 400 lbs more than my base Cayman. These threads comparing the Cayman to an entirely different class of car is just insane in my opinion.
