Some observations regarding CS vs. M3

I had to make several trips to our local Barnes and Nobles before I could actually get my hands on the January 2008 "Top Gear". Takes awhile for us to get it down here in Florida. I was waiting in anticipation to read the article that compares the BMW M3 Coupe to the Porsche CS. The article certainly does make our little CS look good! Just got my copy of the February Road&Track which features a roadtest of the BMW M3 Coupe. Does 0-60 in 4.1 seconds (yes, I know that I should not get too excited about 0-60 times because that is not what our cars are all about) and the quarter in 12.5 seconds, so it is a road burner. An interesting aside featured in the new R&T: R&T compared the Ferrari Testarossa with the ZR-1 vette in the June 1989 issue and the vette did 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, which was a tad quicker than the Testarossa they compared it to, and about what our CS does today. Amazing how much quicker the supercars have gotten in 18 years. It is so true that things are relative because 4.9 seconds was considered amazing back then, and now it is just so-so. Anyway, getting back to the M3, R&T could not say enough great things about the car, and yet what Top Gear has to say about the M3 in comparison to the CS is almost embarrassing for the M3. I guess this is a testament to just how wonderful and well balanced the CS is. I know, the M3 and CS are really not in competition with one another, but the automotive journalists would certainly have us believe they are!

Talking For those needing more

reinforcement, the original post left out the most important bit in the Top Gear report. All know that Clarkson isn't too fond of the "***-engined" German cars, but the last paragraph in the review states, without equivocation, that the CS "is a superior sports car" versus the new M3. The article also notes that on the road or track, the CS leaves the M3 in the turns and twisties. The preceding review also ranked the new C63 AMG "just ahead" of the highly touted (in the US mags) M3.

I read the mag, but it costs like $12 or something at B&N.
