Last weekend I was driving with my dad. We were on a nice, slightly twisty, 55mph road when a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano appears in my mirror. The guy was maybe in his 40's with his wife. So, I punch it a little and of course he was right behind me. When the road opened up to 2 lanes, I went in the right lane and he passed me. (not to race or anything) As he passed I looked over and saw neither one of them were too impressed.
I wonder why?
Anyway, I've had the car for a little more than a week and have received many compliments, but sometimes it really depends on what the other guy is driving.
Just got my Cayman S this weekend. Don't get me wrong, but the looks are not the same as the looks I got with my Lotus Elise (2007 model - totalled it after 260 miles- wife would not let me buy another). With the Elise I would actually have people turn around in thier car seats (drivers!) to see the car as they went by. Nearly every one I passed took a look. I, however, love the car and my wife will actually get in it.
My stop light memory comes from the Boxster S that I used to own. I stopped at the light. A Miata pulled up beside me. We looked at each other's cars and smiled. (I've always liked Miatas.) He grinned and said, "Okay, you win!" I smiled and said, "I like your car." The light turned green and we drove off. Everyone was happy.
I owned a Miata for 8+ years and loved it. Never felt it was underpowered or anything, and really enjoyed autocrossing it and doing the occasional open lapping day. The Miata is very nimble, and extremely fun on the twisties!
Mine was the "Gen 2" model (known in Miata circles as the "NB") -- the 1999 through 2005 model that some people think is particularly feminine looking. That never bothered me, as I just thought it had some of the most graceful, sensuous lines of any modern car. Maybe that's why I have a Cayman -- I think it also has very sensuous lines. More muscular and athletic than the Miata, but curvy and exotic none the less.
I haven't really noticed more "looks" other than the occasional glance, but then again, I'm not good-looking like fliahebe and parkedr
Okay, so yesterday evening while I am filling up at the gas station I manage to get on the slowest fricking pump in history (took like ten minutes to fill the tank up) Well, while I am waiting a pump aisle over an older Jeep Grand Cherokee pulls in with two women. Nothing exciting there but after I sit waiting for another five minutes the woman in the passenger seat starts looking at me and the CS and then proceeds to walk over. So you may be thinking this is a good thing and that is where you would be wrong. To give you a description of this individual think "Deliverence" except with an all female cast. She asks if she can look at the car, I say "sure " keeping my answers as brief as possible. "Can I look in inside (thru the open window)", Me - "sure ". In the backdrop the pump from hell is slowly doling out the gas while I yearningly look at the gauge willing it to somehow pump faster . After another minute her friend "Deliverence II" comes over . Eventually the uncomfortable saga ended and the pump was still going. Just thought I would share the most uncomfortable Cayman attention I have received to this point. Maybe next time I will snap a picture with my cell to attach with the post. I am sure they would have loved posing with the car. This is one of the downsides of living in the mountains. Next time it damn well better be some hot coeds .
I might have thought that the PDE-1 i bought last week might have garnered a few stares, but i haven't noticed any. Unfortunately, the only looks I have garnered have been either looks of sympathy or pity, inasmuch once i bought my car, I have seen nothing but really tricked out, hi-end Turbos, GT-3's, and 1 GT-2. They blow by me laughing. If my purcahse decision had been ego-based, this experience surely would have burst my bubble! lol
I have had (2) 350-Z owners and (1) Z4-M owner try to mix it up with me on the street.
My employees say my car is a 'babe magnet', but I havent figured out a way to get it into the nightclub/restaurant with me....lol.
I get so many looks in my car that it's sometimes just a little bit annoying, but always flaterning. Probably because my car is Guards Red.
Since I installed the Borla, I get twice as many looks. The car sounds so sick that anyone remotely interested in cars stops in their tracks and turns to look. I've also noticed this at red lights. The people behind me often lean forward over the steering wheel to get a closer look. Many times I've seen cars behind me with two or more people inside where one will actually point at the car and say something to the others. A short blip right then will usually return smiles and more talk.
True story. About a month ago I pulled up to Antons Pizza to pick up a take out order I called in (a meatball sandwich). As I pulled up, the subsonic rumble of the Borla commanded attention. As I walked in, several employees were at the window looking out at my car. The owner says to me, "Wow..... Is that a Ferrari.....?"
True story #2: Also about a month ago, Ina and I went out to dinner with another couple to celebrate our recent marriage. Tim hadn't driven the Cayman yet, so I said, "How about Tim and I take the Cayman and you girls follow us?" (We were headed in different directions after dinner anyway). So we did just that. Tim, my friend and a hopeless car fanatic, drove the CS the 30 mile trek to our favorite German restaurant in Bethel. (He LOVED it by the way, which is saying a lot because he is usually very critical.)
When we arrived at the restaurant we met back up with the girls. After having followed us and looking at the back of the Cayman for the last 40 minutes Kellie says, "Wow.... They're making the Caymans a lot sexier than they used to. I never liked them before, but I really like what they did with this one." Tim started to correct her by telling her the Cayman is a brand new model and that she's thinking of the 'other' Porsches. I found her mistake very flattering and rather amusing.
Borla
BORLA PERFORMANCE INDUSTRIES is the leader in the design and manufacture of stainless steel performance exhaust. We began two decades ago as a manufacturer of exhaust systems for such "concours classics" as Rolls-Royce and Ferrari cars and have evolved into the premier manufacturer of today’s performance vehicles for the street, off-road, and racing.
Not from my end, I think it is because everyone in my area has a lot more money to burn than I do. A Cayman is seen as an "above average" car over here.
I do get the occasional thumbs up and people asking me in the parking lot, but they tend to be from out of state/foreigners.
For some reason, I was getting a lot more looks with my Crossfire, but I think mainly people were trying to figure out why somebody would overpay for an outdated Mercedes SLK. It eventually turned out to be a lemon so I returned it to Daimler Chrysler and picked up a Mercedes S430. Are you all seeing the German connection in my vehicles?

I wish I knew that if I bought a Lotus Elise that my wife (now ex-wife) would not ride in it. I would have used the money to buy the car instead of paying for my divorce!!!
