I owned a 911 (996) in the past, but it seems to me that the Cayman is now the truest expression of the Porsche ideal.

Here's my question: How do I convince my better half that I need "another" coupe--and that $70k or so is a rational price to pay for a car that is (a) no bigger than a VW Rabbit (her words) and (b) 120+ HP, a 2-doors short of an M3 sedan?

So Caymanofile, how do you justify the price tag, and does it really work for a daily driver? Sorry to be such a newbie, but I'm genuinely looking for some answers--and the courage to put my money where my heart is.

If you have a new XKR then you've already exhibited the "courage" (might not be what I'd call it) to put your money where your heart is...dang, that's a lot of money for a Ford...and in true Ford tradition, you'll likely be spending much more on that dog in the future.

Your wife's right....buy the VW ....and put the difference in a short term CD...you'll need it.

I was shopping for a 997, on a lark test drove the CS. Previously I'd thought it 'overpriced' on paper and only test driven boxsters.

I couldn't believe how much I liked the CS on the test drive, it made the 997 feel like a sedan almost. It felt so wrong in the turns. It's been a while since I'd sold my 996 or driven any porsche so I went back a week later to the same dealer. This time I remembered the 911 characteristics and could make the 997 *flow*. However I drove the CS afterwards, and it was no contest. This was the sports car of the two.

1. My justification was that I ain't getting any younger.

B. Yes, the Cayman works just fine as a daily driver, for me at least.

I'm not going to get graphic, but the feeling of driving one is exceptional and like few other experiences you can have legally. Every time I drive mine I giggle thinking how incredible it is, and few other people know it!

Go drive!

i have always been a porsche person--the cs is my 4th--i wanted a car of interest to drive around the usa--i want to see the sites--the 911 didn't fit in the garage but in the end i am very happy with the cs--especially the luggage capacity--i am not getting any younger either

Wanted a Porsche but thought it too expensive, indulgent...then a year ago I got suddenly & seriously ill, had two operations, felt lucky to have lived.

Ordered a CS as soon as I was well enough. It's everything I'd imagined and more. If I had to sell it tomorrow, the depreciation would be cheap compared to the cost of "coulda shoulda."

You never know--do it now. Besides--my wife loves riding in it so we spend more time together
