More legroom than Boxster?

After taking several longish test drives on a Cayman S, I put a deposit down on an incoming car that my dealer had on order. I am pretty big - about 6'3", 250. I would not call the car spacious, but it was not uncomfortable - I don't recall leg room being an issue but rather the car just felt narrow with limited room for my left elbow. Tonight I sat in my dad's 987 Boxster and, call me crazy, but the drivers seat did not seem to have the same range of travel as the Cayman. In the Cayman, the seatback was right up against the carpeted engine cover. On the Boxster, I could not get the seat back to touch because the headrest was inside the roll hoop. The Boxster felt really tight in the legroom department. I am thinking that the Cayman has greater seat travel because it lacks the hoops. Can anyone confirm?

I don't know the answer, but I had the same experience with my 986 Boxster. If I pushed the seat back where I wanted it, the headrest was jammed inside the roll hoop, and it made an annoying rubbing sound. I find the Cayman to be roomier and less restrictive. I think possibly that not having the rear window right over your shoulder, and having a slightly larger door window, adds to the illusion of spaciousness. 987f

My impression was that Cayman had more legroom too, and that the seat reclined a bit more. It almost seems that engine cover is higher on a Boxster.

The legroom in the CS is much better than in my 2003 Boxster S. In the Boxster, if you raise the seat to its max, the seat hits the rollbar before it can get all the way to the rear. Raising or lowering the seat on both cars can have an impact on legroom. You have to experiment with both seat height and fore and aft position to get the best legroom setup.

The 987 floor pan has an inch or two more room than the 986's.
