New to the forum

Hey all,

I figured I'd make a post introducing myself, my name is Rich and I live in out in Portland, Oregon. I'm throwing around the idea of buying a Cayman or a Cayman S so why not get to know the community. So any thoughts to impart? To give you an idea I'm thinking an 06 or 07 in the sub 45k range. Are there any pitfalls or things I should be aware of going into this? I currently drive a 350Z.

Thanks,

Rich

welcome! You've come to the right place. Just take some time to search the site and all your questions will be answered. This is by far the best car forum out there.

Like you I am still deciding which model to get and the information here is priceless. I basically try to read all "new posts" each day and feel I am getting a tremendous education.

While still a 986 Boxster owner, I started visiting the Cayman Club, and found it an invaluable source in configuring my order, among other things. Happy hunting, and keep monitoring this site. 987f

Welcome!

I would certainly recommend trying to test drive both models, if you aren't sure which you want. There are a lot of low mileage 06 and 07s coming on the market. A quick check on Carmax shows the 06 CS's they are selling for a bit over 46K, and the 07 2.7s are selling for around 45K.

The only pitfall I see is that once you've been bitten by the Porsche bug, there's no cure (except to own one).

Good Hunting!

Rich - Welcome to the CC. As Markus said, make use of the search tool, and you will get a great many of your questions answered without having to ask a single one. Take a turn through the FAQ - lots of information about the difference between the two models and the options available for each. Look through the "complaints" forum to see what's not working - although don't let the information there get you down - by and large, the Cayman S and Caymans are good, reliable cars. Look through the "comparisons" forum... there's been several threads posted by former and current 350z owners... also, KS-CS's advice on test driving is spot on.

Thanks to all who responded, I appreciate the input. It's really great to make a "new guy" post and get so many responses, it says a lot about a forum and it's members.

Thanks again for the welcome!

Rich
