Man I would love to have an R8. Unfortunately at my local dealer, my 3 cars bought from them over the last 8 years doesn't rate me high enough to make their "list." Read some info over at Audiworld recently that might mark some sea changes in the future. First, the factory is prepared to build as many as 6000 R8's a year. First year allotment to the US was only about 200 but this calendar year should be closer to 600. The worldwide yearly production of Porsche 911 TT's was mentioned as being about 3000 with a large percentage of those going to the US. Fact is there's only so much market for $125-150K playtoys. Once the initial hyper demand is met, I think the market will stabilize and a bonafide customer will be able to order an R8 in a reasonable timeframe. Keep in mind that this sort of "market adjustment" almost always happens with the "It car du jour," this just happens to be where the R8 and GT-R are right now. They won't stay there forever, the market's too fickle.

Cold Croc, if you have the opening you should really consider buying that car. Just from the financial stand point. From the emotional point, I wanted that car the first time I saw the prototype. Had I been at your point in life I would have been the first in line, but seeing as how I'm still a kid I couldn't buy a 100k+ car; I'd look ridiculous driving that thing. It should be okay for you, and the R8 really is a fantastic piece of machinery (not that the CS isn't). And now's the time to get into one, not 3-4yrs later. I think the hype on it's going to be done by then, and you're not going to be as wowed by the thing as you are now. Kinda of like when the NSX came out. NSX is still a great car and the R8 will still be a great car to it's last days of production, but it's not going to have that same desirability that it has now. You can always get another CS later. Porsche isn't going to change up the formula much for some time to come. They'll just bump up the hp as the 911 goes up in hp. But you really have to thank God that some of our problems come down to which bad@$$ sports car we should buy.
