Biggest pro for the Boxster ===> Convertible

Biggest pro for the Cayman (IMO) ===> More rigid chassis

It is simple it distills down to what you prefer a convertible vs. a coupe. They are both excellent cars and very similar.

Cheers

Cayman Vs Boxster

Going back and forth between leasing either Cayman or Boxster.
Love the Cayman because it is new model.
But something about the Boxster and the top down.
What are the major differences to consider.
Do they drive the same way.
Which is more fun ?
Thoughts ?
Thanks

I've had a Boxster and I loved it. I have a Cayman and I love it too.

What are the major differences? You can put the top down on a Boxster! That wasn't important to me because when the weather is warm enough for top down driving I am on a motorcycle.

Do they drive the same way? To me the Cayman is a little stiffer. Since I don't track my cars I'm not sure that makes a lot of difference.

Which is more fun? They're both fun! I think I prefer the Cayman because it reminds me of my old 911.

The bottom line is that you can't go wrong with either.

Several similar threads on this topic in the past - see the bottom of this page.

My - You can't go wrong either way.

If I lived in So. California, I probably would have seriously considered the Boxster, but I just didn't think that I would drive with the top down that often where I live. No regrets with my choice.

You know it's funny. I never cared THAT much for the Boxster. I'm a coupe guy but I certainly see the attraction to having the top down. Don't mean to sound like a snob but it just didn't strike me as a real Porsche. I got the same feeling from the 914 back in the day. Seemed like an effort to sell a marquee name at an entry level. Now the same could certainly be said re the CS but for whatever reason I just didn't get that vibe. Maybe because it was an exotically styled Porsche that was almost within my financial reach. Anyway, I sure love my car and apparently alot of others do as well. I didn't buy it with the intention of tracking but now that I have I'm lovin' it even more!

Hardtop or ragtop?
Which one will make your heart pound?
That is how you choose.

My boyfriend had a Boxster, and he prefers convertibles.

I love the coupe shape, and am willing to give up the ability to put the top down for what is (in my opinion) a better looking car.

To me the Boxster and Cayman look totally different, and am much more drawn to the Cayman in spite of the fact that you can't put the top down.

I went back and forth on whether to get a Boxster or a Cayman, ultimately decided on Cayman and I'm glad I did.

Of course, living in southern CA I am reminded on a daily basis of how the weather is "perfect convertible weather." Doesn't matter to me, I'd rather have the coupe shape.

Also, I know that the reality is I would rarely have the top down. As soon as I'd put it down, I'd be cold/hot and want to put it back up, plus the wind would blow my hair, I would have to strategically plan when to get on the freeway, etc.

Ultimately it's a personal decision, and I'm much more drawn to the Cayman because I think it's a beautiful car.

Good luck with your decision, you can't go wrong.

Yeah...that's why I don't like the Boxster - messes up my hair. Wouldn't you agree STLPCA?

Is that sarcasm, kher?

It has nothing to do with messing up my hair-- but being blinded by it. At any rate, I can't stand to feel hair "tickle" my face, I rarely even ride with the windows down. Even if I put my hair back, it pieces still blow free. Me clawing at my face = unsafe for driving.

Shave my head and drive a convertible, or keep my hair and drive a hard top? Considering I liked the shape of the hard top more to begin with, it wasn't much of a dilemma.

I went through the same trying to decide between the two. I was always a huge fan of the Boxster and found that the latest model really brought it to the proper level and look it deserved, more aggresive. I ultimately chose the Cayman though for several reasons, newer model, more HP, sexier curves. But one of the biggest decision makers was that I had read that Porsche was going to do a major redesign of the Boxster soon, so I didn't want to have a Boxster that was soon going to be out-dated.

I considered the boxster. It seemed better "value".. Similar (almost same) capability + open top for less price. However, I'm not so good under the sun, I tend to get a headache easily from it (even though I'm from a very sunny place). Hide under shades, caps at all times. I borrowed a vert now & again and found it a bit tiring so went with the hardtop. I think it also makes a better one-car car.

The vert would be nice on summer evenings like today though.
