Nissan 370Z Looks Great!!

I think all those Hyundai Tiburon or Mitsubishi Eclipse Prospective owners should take a look at this car .I am leaning toward a Modified twin turbo Tiburon with 22" Chrome Spinner Wheels at the moment .I should be Quiet I just Bought a 2009 Murano 2 days ago and totally Love it .. .My last post in this thread today I promise

Personally, I'm intrigued. If nothing else, more competition will force improvement by Porsche. Or else German cars will be relegated to the same place German performance motorcycles are...
+1. My BMW K75 S has
been relegated to the garage it shares with the VW Eurovan and Cabriolet.

I'm glad they're adding lightness. Every car manufacturer should start reaping the benefits of their cars losing weight but as others have mentioned I don't like nissan's styling. Have you seen the murano? I am on the list for a GTR though, if it really is that good I'll get past the looks!

15k over retail is not worth it, after you throw in the tax it would be impossible to make a profit on that car. but at msrp I think that car will surpass the hype.

and you lied about no more posts in this thread, someone alert a moderator

Didn't mean it as an insult Prodgers. I was blissfully unaware of your girlfriend's choice of ride. I just think the Rogue, Murano lines are ridiculous in looks and function. To each their own and certainly mean no harm just not a fan. I'm of the camp if you need an suv get an suv if you don't get a car or wagon. Glad she's happy with her choice though, that's all that matters. I told the local dealer, who is sitting on 6 more allocations of the GTR btw, that when they don't sell at their huge mark up to give me a call and give me their first spot at msrp which is like a year and a half away. We'll see, I may end up paying a little over if I like it when I drive it. How do you like the Nissan dealer experience. Any issues?

I don't think it's all that ugly... then again I haven't seen the interior yet. Great price positioning, they'll sell a bunch of them. That's one reason I never had any interest in owning one, too many on the road. I've always found the Z line interesting and I've followed it's evolution ever since my girlfriend bought a 260Z back in the early 80s. You gotta admit the Z has legs - been around a long time and there's alot to be said for that. I just hope they haven't screwed up the exhaust note. The Z/G35 has always been one of the sweetest tunes on the road IMHO.

Why would anyone ever consider a Z car as competition for a Cayman? They are in two entirely different leagues, different price points, etc. etc. etc.

That's not being elitist either, I bought an original new 240Z back in 71 when they first came out. That was a sportscar. Ever since then they just kept bloating the thing up bigger and bigger into a GT. 260Z, 280Z 300Z 350Z, I think they are going to run out of numbers.

There is no comparison ... err substitute.

I don't understand these comments. It's a 2 door 2 seat car that weighs about the same as the Cayman with more power in this next evolution. What am I missing? Why is this a GT and a Cayman a sports car? Coming from an Elise those message boards are filled with Porsches are gts not sports cars etc. What exactly is considered a sports car these days? Is a 599 a sports car, a 430, an elise, a miata, an slk?

Yes, Loti definitely sportscars. The 240Z was small, light, and it seems to me Zs keep getting bigger and bigger. My point is more related to:
  1. One is a Nissan, the other a Porsche. There is a difference that is not marketing but reality.
  2. Two entirely different price points, two different target markets, different demographics for buyers.
IMO, I doubt many new car consumers cross shop Porsches and Nissans. That is not meant as being snobbish but rather a reflection of the target audiences. I find these "comparison" threads strange. They are not even close to the same price targets or demographic targets.

Look at it this way. You see two new cars at your neighbors. One is a Porsche, the other a Nissan. Which one do you want to go see first?

The more I think about this, I'm probably not saying this right. The OP asked if the 370Z was competition for the Cayman S. I just don't see it. Totally different market audience. Different price points, different reasons that the demographics buy these cars. Totally different audience. I just dont see potential new car CS buyers looking at buying Z cars but hey, who knows, everyone has different reasons for buying cars.

chows4us, at what point after a new Nissan 370Z passes your *** on a track, do you actually get a clue that Nissan is making some very good GT/sports cars now? To dismiss this car out of hand becuz you, once upon a time, owned a Nissan 240Z back in the stone age, is very short sighted. How many people here tried to dis the new GT-R, only to find themselves having to eat their words and feel very badly informed?

I don't know if this new Nissan is a track rocket or not. But to try and dismiss this new car out of hand, does not serve anyone very well. The Nissan GT-R looks to be a better track car, performance wise, (completely stock), than any Porsche ever made for public sale.. at less than 1/2 the price! I'm keeping my ears turned to both Japan and Germany from now on.

I'm sure that since Nissan used the Cayman S as a benchmark, the 370Z will either hit its mark or maybe even slightly exceed it (based on the 06-08 CS). I think it will be a great performing car. As for the looks...I'll have to wait to see one in person. When it comes to aesthetics, it is hard to beat the CS. Obviously the 370Z will have less cachet then the CS.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the new 2009 370Z measures up to the 2009 CS - no doubt there will be comparison tests.
