IMO, this is why Nissan (or Infiniti) will never be competition for PAG.
The money talks. Its all in the demographics. Who buys the cars, where are the demographics. How is the marque marketed and what is the target audience. It doesn't matter that the GTR is faster around the Ring than a TT, the marque is not perceived by the marketplace as a premium marque. Branding matters.
Shouldn't that post be in the "snoob" appeal thread? Nissan will sell every GT-R they can produce, most at a significant premium to MSRP. Is that not good enough? Then again, maybe my opinion doesn't matter, since my income and net worth are substantially less than the poll respondents' average...

An official press release aggregating the results of others' opinions. I don't doubt it's reality, but the results don't diminish the appeal to many of the GT-R one bit.

+1
Porsche is already on record about the GT-R, I believe the direct quote was "We like competition." That was right before the GT2 posted a 7:31 at the 'Ring besting the semi-wet time of 7:38 by the GT-R, and before the GT-R recently bested the GT2 with a 7:29 in good track conditions.
Like it or not, apart from a few open minded consumers, most who can afford a Porsche want a Porsche because of what it represents and do not consider a Nissan 370Z, Mazda Miata, Honda 2000, Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky as options.
I don't think the numbers are so few. I tested the z4, 350Z, Cayman & s2000 back to back while I was shopping before I settled on the cayman. And the s2000 gave me a few second thoughts at the time.
Regardless of how fast it "might" be, a Nissan will never have the Aura or history of Porsche. And I agree, if that is what it is going to look like, it's downright disappointing. My CS has more than adequate power, has great style, great sound, great handling... and great Porsche history!

(I could quote more die-hard Porshce bandwagoners, but I won't.. for sake of argument)
Let's face it guys... most potential Porsche buyers will look to buy Porsche simply because of the "brand name" it represents. This "brand name" might be due to history, the target audience, the exclusiveness, and whatever else you want to argue. The potential Porsche owners want this to be exclusive themselves, they want to be able to impress the opposite gender, they want others to "look" at their car & the driver as they pass by, and they want others to be jealous that they could shell out $$$ for this brand persona.
The fact of the matter is.. if there was any other brand that doesn't have all this "posh" to it's name.. no matter if it KILLED a Porsche on the actual streets and/or track.. the Porsche seekers would still buy the Porsche. Personally, I don't care for all that... even if a realiable company such a Nissan made a car that could destroy a Porsche.. I couldn't justify paying the "premium" for all that C_R_A_P.. IMHO. When you are in the middle of a race/driving.. nobody is thinking about what badge a car has as it zooms by you..basically you're struggling to catch up!
Again.. let me re-post the quote of this entire thread:

The first response to new Japanese competitor threads is always "it's ugly" shortly followed by "it's not German" or some variation of Brand X stinks.
350hp, 3000 lbs, proven platform, $35K...even if it needs a few mods to be track ready what street/track car doesn't?
Personally, I'm intrigued. If nothing else, more competition will force improvement by Porsche. Or else German cars will be relegated to the same place German performance motorcycles are...
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Given the investment I have in my Cayman S and the pleasure it brings me, I highly doubt I would replace it with one of these new Z's but as a car enthusiast, I am excited by this news!
